Painting away the vintage in Oak Park, IL

I have been painting my apartment recently nothing major just a shade lighter so that the association cannot tell, but I get better light. It is a shame because in Lakeview I was able to paint that apartment over there, so long as the color was not a gloss black. Really. That specific. And I can understand the reason behind it because trying to cover the color black is hard enough, but gloss black? UGH.

Also means that someone painted an apartment in gloss black before. Why? I have no idea but it was a caveat. Here is Oak Park, IL it seems that there is a moratorium on improving the rental living spaces even by the associations that run them. The old vintage look is definitely over with, updates should be required by the village alas they are not. When looking at where all the new development is happening I can definitely say that the village planners are not exactly the brightest crayons in the box. Therefore when it comes to new regulations being written for older exiting buildings I doubt I will see anything in my lifetime.

The nostalgia trip Oak Park, Il seems to be riding also leaks into its politics and social economic policies, but right now I am just bucking the system to get more light into my apartment with the old ass light fixtures I have. Just a tad shade lighter and my rooms are looking better than ever and hopefully sealing in all that lead paint. That way I won’t die from “vintage” Oak Park, IL

Oak Park, IL is violent af

I recently was doing a search for stuff on Oak Park, IL for the Halloween Season because it’s so boring here. And I used Google which had a list of questions that was frequently asked on the site. The site question was: “Is Oak Park IL safe?”  LOL Really people are we trying to find out if this hippie-fascist village is safe? At this point it is a foregone conclusion, especially if you are reading this (you are still alive).

But according to the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) you have a one to thirty-two chance of being a victim of a reported crime. Yes, I said reported crime, because not all crimes are reported. Taking into the basic population of Oak Park, Il around 51 thousand people that is a not a good statistic most of these crimes are property related. But the village average of violent crimes is higher than the state (Illinois) average of violent crimes, averaged out to 348 violent crimes per square mile in the village.

Meaning that Oak Park, Il is not as safe as it appears to be, the village might as well integrate with the Austin area and bring down its crime rate. Hahahahahaha! Wild wild west: Oak Park, IL. And now you wonder why people do not want to live in this dusty lawless little burb. Do not believe the hype.

Working in Oak Park, IL… not with the company Wayup!

I was trying to get a job close to the village and was working with this New York City recruitment agency called Way up, the experience was terrible. I had a phone interview with one of their people to get me closer to the village and eliminate my travel time on the 290. During the interview I told them about my current job, my experiences and responsibilities but for some odd reason at various times during the interview I felt that the interviewer needed further explanation. But when I asked if they needed further explanation they of course stated it was not needed.

This company is strange because they ask you if you want feedback after the interview and of course wanting to get in a foot in the door you say yes. UGH. When I got the e-mail from the interviewer one of the things they stated I should have explained my job “terminology” more. They also wanted me to have a “proper greeting” when answering the phone like “Hello this is Mike Jones… how may I help you..” Now when answering a call from an unknown phone number you are not identifying yourself like it’s the 1980’s anymore. So a lot of the points in which were mentioned as negatives in this email were a joke. I therefore went online through Google found the company and made a review.

The reviews, the positive ones were made by members high up in the company (the CEO was one of them), of course and the negative ones were made by job seekers who also had similar interactions. All of the sudden a few weeks later the company Wayup is no longer listed on the Google maps section and all the reviews were deleted with it. Ending any type of transparency for local job seekers in the Oak Park, IL area to know what they are dealing with when it comes to WayUp. I am glad to contribute to this local blog and inform local residents about how this New York Company treats job seekers who are hopeful in giving back to (the village) local community.

Happy Halloween!

Hey everyone, Happy Halloween from Oak Park, IL blog!

Here is my haiku for this year’s Halloween:

I will be giving out candy. Dressed up to the nines.

And either being crazy as fuck or drunk as a skunk.

Stay out of trouble which is not hard in Oak Park, IL.

But this is the perfect time to get in trouble.

To do the things you would not usually do.

You can walk down the street with a mask and a large hammer and no one will question.

Today is Halloween O-lay!

Trolling public officials in Oak Park, il

After the heated exchange between Dan Moroney and Susan Buchanan, the latter is getting trolled with threats. Now, this just highlights the reason for a statement and why the opposition to it is just ridiculous. Even though Ms. Buchanan was out of line with her outburst, being a public discussion and debate regarding this issue. Meaning keep it civil. The fact that she is being trolled and threatened outlines that the village still has a bunch of idiots that no matter how wrong or right, you may state Ms. Buchanan’s behavior was, it illustrates her point.

In the forum someone made the point if Oak Park, IL cannot get past a statement how can it improve on an inclusive environment for diversity that it believes the village to be. The opposition to the statement and not programs that will come late as a result of the statement is not a good look for Oak Park, IL. It shows that how backwards the village is and could impact the different businesses, systems (educational social, etc.), and residents when trying to outreach to others outside of the village’s borders.

Nowadays in an increasing ever changing America, the need to reach out and build bridges amongst diverse groups is required. No longer can one group “be on top” and hope that the others fall in line, that time is over with. Oak Park, IL with the various individuals railing against a statement, just a statement (let that sink in), is just drowning itself in a shallow pool of outdated stigmas, meanwhile dragging its residents and businesses with it. Oak Park, Il even if it completes, agrees, and puts out this statement will now always be behind the preverbal 8-ball because of the opposition and the trolling of Ms. Buchanan. Oak Park, IL will be now known as a racist, sexist, xenophobic, bias, homophobic and hate filled village because of its inability to agree upon, a statement.

Diversity statement in Oak Park, IL how hard is it?

Regarding the diversity statement which Oak Park, IL is trying to create, it seems ridiculous that there would be such a debate. It is funny but not surprising that Dan Moroney would have some opposition to such a statement remember he was elected in his position by people in the village who feel just like he does. So there is opposition to “stopping the hate” in Oak Park, IL it is just that Dan Moroney is the public face of that movement.

When another trustee Susan Buchanan made the point that the trustees in opposition do not have an “idea” of the oppression facing these communities she too is a voice elected by some of the people in Oak Park, IL. Meaning she too, is a part of that group dealing with the frustration of the village’s slow moving progress in dealing with diversity and the issues that come with it (positive and negative). The village always wants to kick the can down the road and that is really the issue here.

Wanting clear definitions of “systems of oppression” seems dumb as shit. But what it really is, is a way out in case something (an event) occurs in Oak Park, Il that lies in direct opposition of encouraging diversity or is defined by this list of “systems of oppression”. Meaning the opposition want a clear definition so that they can work around it. Plain and simple. These are those kids who play “tag” football and argue that a tackle is a version of “tagging” because you are touching your opponent.

With every word printed for the “systems of oppression” Oak Park, Il is talking five steps back into the past. Worse, it is developing a guideline for those who want to circumvent it and still perpetuate a system of abuse by telling them what is being looked out for. And thereby giving them (the opposition) a way to work around it.

On leave….

Well think what you may a person is innocent until proven guilty. Of course not in Oak Park, IL when a teacher is given a “leave” under “unspecified allegations” ..wow.  Great wording so if the person is guilty, we think “knew it” because such wording strengths our bias, if they are innocent this statement still affirms that the person is guilty of something. And when it comes to kids we always think the worse i.e.: referencing gossip in a letter to parents always helps create MORE gossip than it should.

It seems to me that is how Oak Park, IL deals with a situation like this: 1. tell everyone not to gossip, 2. keep everyone in the dark and 3. then go on like nothing has happened… these are the leaders making decisions to help educate the next generation people! Racism in the school? Let’s shoot out a letter saying there’s no racism in Oak Park, IL, then everyone, move on. Poof problem solved. Not saying the teacher is guilty or not, but this does not help with this situation or if any scenario any of us thought of in regard to this person being placed on leave in the future. I mean, it could something as tedious as lying about certification, to knocking little old ladies down in the park. Fueling the imagination and dealing with it in an unprofessional manner does not help the situation at all. But rarely in Oak Park, IL when the shit the fan does anyone act with any sense. Of course, we may say that happens anywhere, but that too also adds to the problem not solve it.

Oak Park IL is rolling out a website for its Lake Street construction project

The Village is pushing out a website, yeah, to showcase what they will be doing to improve Lake Street in Oak Park, IL. It has fancy project details what will be done on the street while construction is happening and hopefully what improvements that will be made. There are various improvements including and I quote: replacing and restoring water and sewer mains” which is always great, I mean who wants to drink water from old lead pipes right?

But the main improvements are of course those that are mandated by most local governments concerning access for those with disabilities. Meaning:  street crossings that people in wheelchairs can use and they will no longer be subjugated to riding in the streets, furthering the spotlight upon them.

Now without even dumpster diving into the website I noticed a huge issue that is not being addressed: parking. There is a link to maps for parking while the construction project is underway but nothing, I can see about adding additional parking to assist businesses their customers or even people with disabilities who need additional access or accommodation for parking. Therefore, this project I just a means for Oak Park, Il to finally update some shit like the water piping, street resurfacing while also following the common-sense laws we have in place everywhere else like giving access to the disabled. I rather say physically challenged but the website stated disabilities a few times, so I am trying to roll with that.

The plan has been in motion for awhile and it is interesting to see what residents think and how the village will effective roll it out per their own deadlines in completing it. With every project there are outliers and “bumps” in the road that will knock a project off course and in Oak Park, Il the pure fallacy that the village can pull something like this off without a hitch would be monumental. In other words, I would not allow the idiots in charge to watch a dead canary (no offense to the animal lovers!), because they would not be able to carry on the next step without some major fuck up.

With that said I am all for this project (surprise bitches!) and I am all about updating infrastructure and accommodating people so that we all have equal access and sanitation for all to enjoy. And yes, updated clean, working sanitation is a luxury. I am hoping that the village can complete this project by 2020 as they stated without the usual fuck ups involved so that they do not put out residents, businesses and those who now have hope to accessing some of the luxuries that the rest of us (without disabilities) take for granted.

Here is their basic website that they rolled out for the Lake street project:

Frank Lloyd Wright house expansion

Well, well, well, so I read in a couple different sources that the extension to one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s houses, visitor center and all is being scrutinized by the community. Lol yup change is hard. But seriously the community at large needs to rip off the band aid and get with the times. The house itself is a tourist attraction that brings in architecture aficionados, these are people that are usually willing to spend a little money in this shit burb. So, the last thing the community at large should do is bitch about the village finding a way to make extra money that does not involve extra taxes.

The community should realize the people they elected are following the money, not the wholesome bullshit trail. The wholesale of Oak Park, il is happening on a major scale, so all these people can bitch and moan, but if they keep voting for the same people pushing this status quo. Frank Lloyd Wright is going to be pimped out for the masses baby, there will probably be a new age souvenir shop too. Change, major change is what you are going to get. So, change and a visitor’s center be ready to welcome them both, and if you don’t like that, suck it.

“family friendly” Oak Park

There was nothing in the pipeline for a couple of days all of the sudden everyone wants to now be in my face and hangout. Total yuck. I was looking forward to being alone. The surprise of the week or flavor of the month either way I guess I am going to have people over or have people visiting. Trying to find entertainment or a way to entertain people in always hard. Searching for something to do in Oak Park, IL is almost like doing research for a major research paper.

Sounds redundant but however most of the people who come through usually do not want to deal with young kids or go somewhere that closes as early as 9 pm. Both caveats are very hard to come by in this area. Oak Park, IL plays the “family friendly” card way too well, while letting the outer suburbs have the scummy adult theatres and bars to take care of the rest of us. Yeah, I said it. Oak Park, IL is more of a waystation, a place that you leave from than go to, when you want to do some living. The village is almost like that place you throw away those kind-of-extreme fun things to do and just settle down and die.

I do not think I could hit sixty and feel like I can be okay with such a scene. The overwhelming sense of boredom is probably why Hemingway left and so many other famous individuals who became successful and never came back. There is just a lot of blah here and no substance.
