“family friendly” Oak Park

There was nothing in the pipeline for a couple of days all of the sudden everyone wants to now be in my face and hangout. Total yuck. I was looking forward to being alone. The surprise of the week or flavor of the month either way I guess I am going to have people over or have people visiting. Trying to find entertainment or a way to entertain people in always hard. Searching for something to do in Oak Park, IL is almost like doing research for a major research paper.

Sounds redundant but however most of the people who come through usually do not want to deal with young kids or go somewhere that closes as early as 9 pm. Both caveats are very hard to come by in this area. Oak Park, IL plays the “family friendly” card way too well, while letting the outer suburbs have the scummy adult theatres and bars to take care of the rest of us. Yeah, I said it. Oak Park, IL is more of a waystation, a place that you leave from than go to, when you want to do some living. The village is almost like that place you throw away those kind-of-extreme fun things to do and just settle down and die.

I do not think I could hit sixty and feel like I can be okay with such a scene. The overwhelming sense of boredom is probably why Hemingway left and so many other famous individuals who became successful and never came back. There is just a lot of blah here and no substance.

Happy Fourth of July!

Try to stay cool and dry, traffic is already hitting its stride and becoming congested. I loathe this type of traffic because it makes getting through the village of Oak Park, Il even worse. But the good smells of Barbeque and freedom should hopefully lessen the blow of the yucky ass traffic of Oak Park, Il. I will try to go to my happy place (not a bar) in my mind and think of the great things I have to be thankful for.
If I find myself having the urge to bitch or shout at a slow ass driver, I will do so with a smile today and maybe add in a “Happy 4th!” at the end. No matter how the day turns out I will make sure that I will get some barbeque in my system even if I have to burn every hotdog in a ten mile radius. Oh I will also but out of the village too, so the day will be a win-win. I have the day off, Friday too (four day weekend), then free food at the family barbeque and time away from one of the jerkiest suburbs in the Chicagoland area!
Win-win. Happy Fourth of July!

Vintage electrical in Oak Park, IL during the summer

Now that the heat wave has set in, like most people in Oak Park, IL I will be trying my hand at running my Air conditioner and taxing the electric system in my apartment. Oak Park, Il usually has homes and apartments littered with electrical systems that have a mixture or various versions of electrical equipment. You can tell by the electrical outlets, the old two plug outlets or what are called two prong receptacles. If you have any of these old time or vintage outlets in your house or apartment it means you have a piece of shit electrical system that could go back decades. And therefore, will have issues running air conditioners or multiple electronic devices at once in one room or sometimes multiple rooms.

With this type of electrical system, you can be sure that you will easily blow a fuse. Whenever I am looking for a new apartment I ask about the electrical set up and I take a long look at the outlets and light fixtures. All that vintage shit does not help but it becomes a “selling point” when realtors or landlords talk about properties in the area. When you hear that just think of 90-degree days and your air conditioner blowing a fuse for the whole apartment and you do not have access to the fuse box. Add to that make it a Sunday, mid afternoon and you have to call someone to either replace the fuse or fix the electrical issue on this hot ass day, when people all around your area are probably having the same issue. It does not make you “love” that “vintage” electrical set up at all.

All the surge strips in the world cannot help me now, so now I am trying to figure out the next steps. Mainly, I am looking at low watt portable air conditioners, using plastic to seal off the windows to keep all the cold air in. Actually, I have doubled the plastic on some windows, that way the old ass crappy windows that are a part of the building will not leak as I have the air conditioner on. The part I hate? The electric bill during these months because they will be massive. Hence why I am thinking smarter this summer and not merely throwing my money out the window because Oak Park, Il and its old ass building codes (construction) does not become a hindrance to me.

Blogger issues for Oak Park, IL blog

I hate Facebook and Google. I tried to post last week’s postings on Blogger via Google and got the runaround. I need a verification code to get in the account, but it came like 4 days later. Therefore, today I am going back and logging in, and rushing to put those four posts on today for the only two people who read the blogger version of this blog.

Its almost as if Google/Blogger wants to meet Facebook in being outdated. I have had a lot of issues with Google, more than I have had with WordPress. And when it comes to Facebook, its just a mess and I have not been on it for a while. The worse part about it is that WordPress no longer works in conjunction with Facebook, therefore I have no real reason to check it. Making that program/app obsolete as well. I think that when it comes down to it, I keep the Blogger account just as a back up to the WordPress account.

Over obsessive, I guess.  Therefore, that is why these posts are late, and now you can see why posting anything on a blog can be a challenge. Creativity be damned coming up with new blogs all the time is hard but when you have technical issues added to it, one’s hatred for the technical becomes apparent. And the challenges mount and become evident to everyone.

Getting out of Oak Park, IL this summer for fun

Now that sun has been out for while I plan to get out more this year. More downtown and south suburb travelling. Events, getting some sun blah blah, I would look to see what events are happening in the village but the logistical nightmare of parking and travelling through is just depressing. The time and amount of effort it takes one might as well go downtown, downtown Chicago that is. I do not want to be what I complain about and basically be a bitch. But… I rather not be at event in Oak Park, IL dealing with the pretentious village idiots or their spawn.

Unfortunately, we all get to see them everyday as we leave our homes to go to work, the grocery store, etc., and basically that is enough for me. There are a couple of things going on, but who cares? I rather go the Taste of Chicago this year or just hit the beach. I know that seems sassy, and its not a hatred but more like disgust. I know there is something else to go be reading is fundamental. So, I found an article called: “The 55 best things to do in Chicago right now” on TimeOut Chicago.

I believe that this article will help anyone in the area find something to do, that is not in Oak Park, IL. And the list of things to do is great for those who interests vary. In this case instead of complaining, bitch and moan I found a solution to my boredom and disgust of Oak Park, IL. Now I know there might be some maggots who upset me but I think that percentage wise per person of being annoying as hell I think that winner of pissing me off will go to Oak Park hands down every time.

This is the article discussing the 55 things to do in Chicago:

Driving off the 290 into Oak Park

The Eisenhower is now under construction and limited to three lanes, going to downtown Chicago. So why is it that the lanes going west to Harlem Avenue takes over twenty minutes to navigate from the Laramie exit of the I-290? Is it that the residents of this area, the village of Oak Park, IL just that feeble when it comes to driving that going the speed limit is just something that is impossible to achieve? As I drive through Oak Park, IL I see a lot of crappy driving and not because people are driving and texting at the same time.

The issue really is the driving skills of the average person in the area, distracted and slow, it is a low worse than the south suburb drivers I dealt with years ago.  In that area, the people really do not have anywhere to go when in comparison to Oak Park, IL and the surrounding areas. Plus, with the amount of access to various ways of transportation to events, places, and landmarks you would think that these bad drivers would be a thing of the past. The village is always trying to push a bike or walking initiative. Events to celebrate the village’s past and present, group activities, etc., etc., all of these things should make the drivers who exit I-290 going into Oak Park, IL a little bit smarter, efficient and faster.

However, that is not true, and these drivers just annoy the shit out of me and others on the road who can easily reach the 55-mph speed limit. You know those drivers who can navigate the expressways with other (similar) drivers in the metro area and beyond to get from point A to point B and vice versa without trouble and in a timely manner. Who the hell are these other drivers who need more driving classes or maybe to have their licenses taken away from them and in exchange are given a bus or CTA pass? Why can they not just get the hell out of the way?

Parking tickets? No problem in Oak park, IL just forget them and be forgiven…

The village cannot get people to pay old tickets from 2004 to 2017. That is news to me because I pay my tickets all of the time. Considering there are nothing but parking restrictions and rules all around Oak Park, IL you would think this is a money maker for the village. But no, the village as one person commented in the article “Ticket amnesty program nets $60K” they were contacted about a few tickets and had to pull out some old cashed checks. Yup, dude had already paid those old tickets and because of the village’s shitty record keeping they tried to charge him twice.

That makes me wonder how many other people, are just victims of Oak Park, IL’s shitty record keeping when it comes to parking tickets. How many people just moved away and left Oak Park, IL in their far rearview mirror, and told the village to suck it with their tickets. How many tickets may have thrown away, out of pure disgust because the parking restrictions as I have aforementioned are so shitty that it is hard to keep one’s patience with the mess called “parking” in Oak Park, IL

I do have to agree that maybe many of the people who did not pay their parking tickets could have been due to socioeconomic reasons, because Oak Park, IL although has “equal housing” does not have equal parking. Getting one of the many types of stickers for parkin in the area is just archaic. I would hazard a guess it is an event praised by old retirees who have a nice 401k. But that is not mirrored by the majority of the population in the country, the area or the village. Thinking that the methodologies of times past is the best practices for the present is very incorrect and foolhardy.

Just forgiving the past tickets of those who did not pay during this amnesty time, pisses me off because again, I pay my tickets. Probably because I think the local enforcement likes to patrol my area and write those little bitches out as part of their day. But if the system is not up to date, and the cost of doing so adding to it the cost of adding these old records into the new system is high as hell… well fuck it! Maybe it is time to update the record keeping system and possibly a lot of the parking jargon that goes with it. Start with a new slate and come up with a new system and set of parking rules that all can abide by.

All black + at night + in Oak Park, IL =stupid

Okay before I rant off without any sense or manners, I was out around 10:30 pm on a Friday driving through Oak Park, IL on various streets to get home. Therefore, I was kind of tired, like anyone else who would be after a 40-hour work week and at so late in the night. Okay, now that is out the way… what the fuck?!! Is it me or are some of the residents in this village simply bereft of common sense? What is the deal of walking around or running (for exercise, I guess) at this late at night wearing ALL BLACK on???

Not just walking or running around in all Black gear but also jaywalking or travelling against the light. Meaning if I have the green light as a driver in a thousand-pound metal box, you as the runner or walker should not be thinking:

  • “Hey, I can beat that car”

  • “Oh, they see me even though it is dark as shit because Oak Park, Il has low wattage street lights and I am wearing all black”

  • “If this driver hits me it’s totally their fault and they will have it on their conscience for their rest of their lives”

  • “There’s no crime in Oak Park, IL at night so I am safe to be the only one to walk/run around here in this pitch-black area at night. I’ll be fine”

Fuck no to all of those. I pulled over at different points of my journey back to my apartment from Chicago (which is well-lit) to take a couple of pictures with my phone of how dark it really is in Oak Park, IL after 10:30 pm. Just in case the majority of the village, they can see what the village looks like at this time, as it seems, the majority goes to bed at 8 pm. Like some type of purge curfew, the streets are basically deserted and walking/running around at night in ALL BLACK should be frowned upon.

If these morons get hit by a vehicle we all be outraged right? Yeah unless you know the time of day, who had the right of way and outfit the person who got hit is wearing would you think otherwise. Some people will still disagree unless they are in that situation. I try to be diplomatic when I hear about accidents happening with pedestrians getting hit by a motor vehicle but its times like this that makes me less likely to have sympathy in the near future.

Do not be disabled and try to get around downtown Oak Park, IL

So now there is limited disability access to Oak park’s downtown, the construction downtown has become an obstacle for many trying to navigate the area. The intelligence of Oak Park officials at work here, has both sides of sidewalks for Lake and Forest closed not only for pedestrians but for those with disabilities as well. Unfortunately, now everyone has to walk in the streets and nearly get hit by passing cars due to the fact Oak Park, cannot manage simple project management implementation.

The yearlong project in this area has about a couple more weeks to go, with signs informing the public are “clearly marked” sounds like a complete standard cop out. Administratively the village has done the bare minimum as required by law, and that is all that can be expected. I am not sure why anyone can believe there will be anything more from this village administration. Total scrooges the lot of them. Thinking that they will give any resident the time of day to give input or have their concerns be listened to.

As I always said the machine that is Oak Park, IL and their construction plans all over and amongst the village is inept. Why does it surprise anyone that you need to risk your lives to merely cross the street? Only in Oak Park, Il is the greed of the few overweighting the needs of the many.

Traffic on Oak Park’s bridges

As I stated before traffic is a huge problem here in Oak Park, IL now unfortunately someone has pay for it with their life. The bridges over the I-290 are nothing to play with. You really cannot even blame the driver in this case when reading what happened it is obvious that someone was just rushing to get home and did not see the car.

These bridges are often hard to navigate, and it is no surprise that this has happened now what to do to remedy this problem, is unknown. I have driven through Oak Park, at different times of the day and because it is so congested, many drivers go above the speed limit while many pedestrians believing that these drivers can see them take a chance walking in front of the aforementioned cars. I have done it in downtown Chicago, but I think because it IS Chicago that my awareness is heightened. Meanwhile in Oak Park, in this shitty little village my guard is let down because one believes the false sense of security that the village impermeates into our brains.

Even it reshapes the entire village there must be changes into the walkways, bridges, streets and sidewalks of Oak Park, IL to sensibly construct a village that can be safely travelled. So that accidents as this will not happen again.

This is the article discussing the accident of the Ridgeland bridge:
