Oak Park, IL related: LemonAid event in River Forest 2017

I did not know that there was a lot of chaos as I drove through River Forest you know the Thatcher avenue express the quickest way to maneuver around Oak Park, IL to main streets that surround it without the hassle of all the traffic and chaos that “No Park” brings. What I did pass by was on Bonnie Brae the annual LemonAid event that the local kids do each year to raise money each year for a good cause.

It is a great event for two reasons first to me in remembrance of 9/11 it is a great way to do something positive on a day that was created through violence. Second, these kids and the organizers are doing something that is for a good cause the Kidz Express. This Kidz Express is a nonprofit that helps kids in the South Austin area, the fact this charity is doing something for kids “across the divide” of Austin Avenue is fantastic.

I have always complained that Oak Park, IL officials should try to reach out and assist the residents of the Austin Area because it would be in the best interest of the suburb as well as the Austin Area. But here you have a bunch of kids and nonprofit organizers leading the charge which the village government should be doing.

This was the 16th Annual LemonAid event so most likely there will be a 17th annual event with River Forest naming Bonnie Brae in honor of this group’s work with an honorary “LemonAid Place” sign there with be hopefully a chance in upcoming years for all of us to help sponsor this event in the future.

Here is the article that discusses the event:

Crime in River Forest and Oak Park, IL

Ah so there has been an uptick in crime in River Forest the area that is usually not touched by crime as Oak Park, Il usually is but now is getting the brunt of its isolationist policies. Both suburbs are linked together in more ways than one, and unfortunately, both are bordered heavily by poor black areas. Oak Park, Il has the Chicago Austin area and River Forest has the suburb of Maywood, I mean if I was on a board of trustees or governing body I would try to reach to these areas to see what I could do to bring some economic development to these areas so hopefully it would attract investment back into these communities and reduce crime.

But noooooo, Oak Park hides behind cula-da-sacs and River Forest hides behind a huge network of Forest Preserves as if criminals wouldn’t run through a forest, obviously, the city planners never watch a Friday the 13th film before. As the crimes are more economic based than run of the mill crazy violence. Therefore, it must be determined what are the motivators behind the criminal’s actions and there is nothing more motivating than living across the street from a bunch of self-delusional shmucks who think an address guarantees safety.

I thank god am not one of those people and I am paranoid, as the good people of Oak Park, Il like to call it, 24/7 but at least I still have all my shit. So until these burbs take the reasonable approach and help build up the communities around them the problem will always exist and problems like these will always get worse.

Burglaries in River Forest rose in this article:

Oak Park, IL is just shitty compared to other burbs

After the shit on Friday, I was like I will hang with my friend Sarah on the weekend and I was like in heaven, it was nice out and very quiet in her area. Now I see why Svengoolie always says “Berwyn” people are not up your ass being noisy and wanting to tell you what to do. The big plus also there is that I saw maybe one person walking their dog in a 5 block radius, wherein Oak Park, Il you cannot even go outside into the courtyard to see a dog and its owner. Oh also to step in dog shit.

The neighbors are quiet in her apartment building, I would characterize their behavior as if almost like they were trying to avoid contact with other people. We took out the garbage went to a local bar, okay, okay, two local bars “persuasion” and another one (too lit sorry). We picked up some White Castles after we got wasted and it tasted like mana from God, it was so good. It was crazy because there were businesses that were open past 10 pm!

Like for adults to actually go and hang out, unlike Oak Park, IL where the commercial businesses are aimed towards kids and retirees. I think the only issues was the town-wide 25 mph speed limit because as you know going through Oak Park, IL even in daylight is boring as fuck, so most of the time you like to speed through to get that drive and life experience over with.

In fact, to get a White Castle to steady the mixed drinks we were getting when we were drinking at my place in Oak Park, IL (because they are no real hangouts after 10 pm) we would have to travel through Most of Oak Park, IL, River Forest and part of Melrose Park, Il to get a few freaking burgers. Therefore, comparing Berwyn, IL (made famous by the Wayne’s World movie) to Oak Park, IL is comparing Apples to Cranberries for fun stuff to do if you are between 20 to 60 years old.

Hell, I know 68 years olds who like to get a great hot cheeseburger at 11 pm at night, so yes, Oak Park, Il is lame as shit. Rent elsewhere, own property elsewhere, party elsewhere just do everything elsewhere, like getting laid; Oak Park, Il is just shitty.

RE: Concordia University Chicago Employee Reviews On Indeed.com

Concordia University Chicago Employee Reviews On Indeed.com is an interesting post from one of my friends on Google Plus, regarding one of the institutions in the area and how they are presented on Indeed.com. Since it is in River Forest, Il and that village with Oak Park, IL share a community bond I decided to post it on here.

It is pretty hilarious and in the same vein of commentary that I have on my blog about Oak Park, IL. This post talks about the negative reviews of Concordia University Chicago and how their negative atmosphere can affect students and how it already affects its employees, sound familiar?

(((cough cough))) Oak Park, IL (((cough cough)))

Just saying NO to the Mailing for the Vote yes Referendum Card I was sent

Oh so I got home and checked my mail and got one of these Vote Yes on 200 the Oak Park River Forest High School Referendum telling me about the Tax cost per Household (annual Property tax Bill) and how it will greatly impact the students of OPRFHS plus the benefits that THEY, the students will reap. Geez, glad I rent over in this bitch and do not own property, I mean it seems like a small group of government or legislative idiots pushing through a measure that will cost the majority of residents a huge ton of cash, in which only a few select individuals will be able to use.

I wonder will residents be able to show their tax bill and use the pool if they want? I mean they will have at least a couple grand invested into this thing by the time it’s done right? Oh it also expands areas for the Performing Arts, which is usually for any school is first set of programs they eliminated if there are budget holes LOL! Does every resident get a free ticket for a concert since they are being forced to pay for the pool? I mean it’s like Windows 10 where Microsoft tried to stuff it down every PC owners that only to have it be rejected by the vast majority of users. Here in Oak Park, Il you have the majority of residents REJECTING the idea of this expensive ass pool.

Probably because like me they do not see the need for the extra expense is needed, nor do they think the extra add-on is necessary there is not a convincing argument for the majority of the residents to add on an extra line cost to their already tightened and taxed household budgets. How about they do not have any kids that go to the school? Maybe they have pets instead of kids, because they do not want any because they do not want the extra expense, or maybe these residents cannot have any? Thanks OPRFHS for pushing this agenda on these groups of residents. How about those residents that are single or maybe even elderly and/or their kids are in college now so they see no need to keep assisting OPRFHS anymore?

I mean doesn’t enough of our taxes go to schools and it seems there are still issues of funding? I think that statement is reflective of most, not all, of the school districts in the Chicagoland area. But to have a school board that just wants to tax the residents for frivolous expenses for things the majority of the residents do not believe is necessary is why I got this stupid card. I mean I did not get a card from the vote NO to 200 group at all you know what that means? It means that the support is there, to vote NO, not to vote YES In other words, it is like when you go over your friend’s house and their little dog runs up to you as you come into the door and starts humping your leg savagely. It’s gross and annoying, just leave me alone.

Fu(king Rude kids stepping on my feet in Oak Park, IL

I see that there is a spike in crime around Oak Park, IL so I wonder why do parents let their kids walk around without teaching them to focus their attention upon their environment instead of their I-pad or I-phone? God, I sound like my father! But you have seen tons of these kids just walking down the street, oblivious to the world around them. I drive down the street and these kids are simply walking across the street nearly getting hit because they (and the driver) are not paying attention.

In a time when grown adults are getting beaten for their electronics on the Blue Line “L” you would think the parent of Oak Park, IL would tell their kids a thing or two about the world. There is no need to racially profile because color is not equal to the deciding if an individual is a criminal or not. Just a couple of minutes of telling these kids that they need to pay attention as they walk down the street, so that their kids do not become a statistic.

I had one kid walk straight down the street towards me, I walked a little left so did they, walked right they walked right, all the while looking down into their I-phone. Of course ,they nearly walked into me, as if they saw me for the first time, my first thought was if this was a scene out of a movie I probably just got pickpocketed! But no alas they did not even know I was there. I have seen kids walk down the street with their parents having to tell them to look up or pay attention.

I have even been stepped on by a little teenager in the Walgreens on Lake street because the little girl was skyping on her phone, I mean come on! I know it’s your status “symbol” but there is no need to: 1. Step on me, 2. Be skyping about your private conversation in a public place loudly, 3. Step on me 4. Not pay attention to your immediate environment and 5. Step on me! Now, I am all about social media but I do not want to get a beat down because I was that easy a target, or that I made the device that enticing to some nutcase.

Now yes, you should be able to walk down the street without worrying, in theory, but with the way Chicago has become crime central, who has nine lives to put that theory to the test? Parents in the area need to tell their kids to put their devices away and pay attention especially to people who are just walking down the street or are walking down the same aisle in the store as they are. I doubt this would happen because the residents, the parents of these special mini-mes are drinking the Kool-Aid Oak Park, IL is serving.

Believing that this is one of the safest places in the area and probably the world is not reality nor does it not help these young’uns to enter the real world. All this acceptance of false safety, acceptance of public display of one’s wealth or withdrawal from the rest of one’s immediate environment just leads to increased chance for their children to become a crime statistic. At the end of the day, I hope these kids learn their lesson the easy way, instead of the hard way, and quit stepping on my ass.

Am I alone seeing the kids of Oak Park, Il walking around focusing on nothing but the electronic device (I-phone, phone, I -pad, etc.,)? Have you been stepped on or ran into but these little omniscient gnomes of travel?
