Oak Park: Green Mental Health bracelets

I was watching another afternoon NBC Channel Five news report about how people were adding positive aspects to Oak Park, IL this one was about how to identify those with Mental Health issues with green bracelets. Now, I am the first to be on the fence regarding this because it does invade the privacy of the individual with mental health problems plus their family and friends as well. However, at the same time how many times have you heard of a news report about police harming or shooting individuals that attacked them, and that individual had mental health issues? These bracelets may be a red flag that these individuals are suffering from mental health problems which can save their lives and others if their mental situation deteriorates, but it can also unfairly mark them for discrimination.

At this point police departments are willing to try and offer this solution to help stem any future tragedies is a great idea. Until there are factual cases of discrimination or better ways to identify and help these individuals then these mental health bracelets are the best thing since slice bread for all parties involved. In Chicago to be a Police Officer only 60 College credits are needed, therefore the highest needed for law enforcement work is an Associates or a Bachelor’s degree. You will not get a legal licensed Psychologist for a Cop to arrive at a scene (a call) if someone with Mental Health issues is involved and at least the green bracelet with help officers in Oak Park, IL to identify this an issue and be able to request the right (licensed) person to help.

The only other solution is to require Police Officers to undergo at least 20 more hours of Psychology classes that cover mental health issues and other patterns of human behavior that they may encounter at the job. That is very doubtful, due to the costs involved for the schooling either paid by the officers or the local governments and then add all the time needed to learn all that material in the end it may not seem that logical to enforce such a requirement. In other words the green bracelets foregoes the need for extra intensive training for the officers saves money for the local governments and allows everyone to be protected physically and legally in the end.

This is the video article that talks about the Green Mental Health bracelets and the police officers who thought of the idea and made it possible:

Failed Stick up attempt on the border of Oak Park, IL

More Crime on the border of Oak Park, IL and Chicago at Madison and Austin avenues. Does not seem to end however the victim was a concealed gun carrier and managed to shoot one of his assailants to avoid being robbed. Looks like that is what needs to be done to exist in Oak Park, IL, and Chicago, since what really needs to be done i.e.: Economic development is not being accomplished.

Unfortunately, this victim did not get the other scumbags it is bad enough these criminals tried to mug a grown man, could you imagine if this was a woman? Or how about an Older woman (since Oak Park is filled with them) being robbed?

Would that get the two communities working to developing opportunities in this borderline area to stem crime? Would the OP Police force get the equipment, manpower and probably assistance on getting the job done in keeping Oak Park, Il safe like it is advertised?

Most likely. There must be a reallyyyy violent crime to get the attention of the civil leaders of Oak Park, IL to divert their attention away from making money off of high rises to deal with this issue. Then only for about two seconds and then they are back to their money-making ways, while the rest of us must deal with the stark reality that crimes like this actually happen in Oak Park, IL

Here is the brief article that discusses the failed stick up attempt:

Oak Park, IL is getting crazy with crime again, emphasis on crazy.

Oak park, Il is getting crazy with crime if you do not have to deal with people stealing Flonase at the Jewel on Madison, to a burglary attempt on Golo gas station on Chicago Ave, with ski masks. They are also breaking into garages to steal a red Toro snow blower.

If Oak Park, Il is not attracting the wrong element and the most idiotic criminals on the planet, we are now hosting fugitives from other states, not just simple ones, the violent ones who stab family members and skip their home state to come to Oak Park, IL to enjoy the wonders the village has to offer. Of course, that means we have a bunch full of crazy walking around in Oak Park, IL, like a ticking time-bomb ready to go off with any slight and the assholes in this village piss me off on my best day, even with a couple in my system! So you can just imagine how many people came in touch with these crazies as they committed their various crimes now, they do have the out of state (would be) killer in custody but that is probably because there were other law enforcement agencies involved.

The question that needs to be asked is: what are local officials and law enforcement doing to stem the increase in local crimes?

Are the local cops doing enough? Do they have enough training or equipment or staff/budget?

Are the village trustees worried about pet projects from school pools and getting behind new lucrative developments that they are simply ignoring the safety issues around this suburb?

When are, residents going to start protests to the lack of action to this type of stuff not being met with a public response?

Will the residents add protesting about crime problem to the problems they raise about new developments around the village i.e.: trees, and grass-killing shade? Maybe not will be done until something tragic happens, as something newsworthy then maybe then.

Violent Carjacking and murder in Oak Park, IL

Unfortunately, there has been another more tragic than usual, senseless crime that has occurred in Oak Park, IL involving a carjacker and a gentleman that tried to stop him that ended in the victim being killed. There have been suspects questioned but that is about it. The unnerving thing about this is that it occurred at 6:40 pm outside the Jewel on Roosevelt road across from the Big Guys stand, this area has heavy traffic so I cannot imagine how the suspect got away nor was able to drag the victim with the car.

It also reminds us that no matter what we have been “sold” about an area being safe like Oak Park, IL we must remain vigil and constantly alert because there is always some scumbag trying to take advantage of us. The only positive thing that can be taken from this is a lesson (in three parts):

  1. to remain alert of your surroundings no matter where you are at whether it is the Southside of Chicago to the borders of Oak Park/Berwyn, Il
  2. Never leave your car running unattended no matter how quick you think you can accomplish the task it just gives scum like the criminal in the article the opportunity to rob you blind or in this case, worse.
  3. If you do get carjacked: let them take it, and report it to the cops and then your insurance immediately. Even though you need a police report to start the process with the insurance company it is best to get something started as soon as possible.

Hopefully, with this crime happening on the border of Berwyn and then escalated up Harlem Ave, ie: Forest Park, other law enforcements entities will be able to join in the search for the killer of this young guy trying to do the right thing.

More Crime in Oak Park, IL at my fav 7-eleven!

Yeah, so crime hit one of my favorite stops on my way to the downtown area the 7-Eleven on Chicago avenue was hit by two bozos with a gun. Kind of crazy because every time I go into this location there is either a cop leaving, or coming in as I leave so I thought this was a better or safer location but I guess I was wrong. I wonder what all the taxes that the residents pay to go to?

Oh right, that money is going to be used for swimming pools they cannot use and helping developers pimp out downtown Oak Park instead of paying for more cops. Or are the cops are even doing their job? For some of the stupid crimes that are listed in the article below, it seems this is either a mixed bag answer or just a standard “no” especially when the offenders fleeing on foot from this 7-eleven location.

These are some of the dumbest criminals on the face of the planet who only got $60 for their troubles and then run away to …safety because they are no cops to stop them. Of course, Oak Park, IL’s government is not concerned with important matters like safety or parking issues for its residents just the high rise and making a buck off the trust of the residents.

Oak Park, IL OPRFHS Sexual assault pt 2

Since there is no help coming from the Oak Park police department who marginalized a reported sexual assault that happened back in August, tired of the runaround one of the students got active and posted a petition on Change.org to address the issue. This just brings to light more allegations of sexual misconduct which who knows if they have been addressed by The Oak Park Police Department, as with my case with my crazy neighbor. It seems that the OPPD do not take such things seriously, maybe the petition on Change.org will bring create an atmosphere of professionalism from the Oak Park Police Department. Because seriously kids raping kids is just terrible and even if there is an allegation no matter how slim there should be some time of increased attention to this issue.

Even the local “newspapers” her raise questions about the creation of a rape culture at the high school, and as with any resident in Oak Park, Il it makes one wonder how long has this been going on? If we know that there were at least “several” other offenders involved with this allegation why are they still allowed to go to school with other potential victims? With the other allegations, what has happened with those offenders are they still involved with Oak Park River Forest High School?

Also if the school is waiting for the Police Department to complete their investigation how are they handling the integration of these offenders into the general student population at the school? What new methods or procedures is the school going to put into place to protect future victims of sexual assault in the future? It seems to me that both entities (OPPD and OPRFHS) are to blame in keeping this culture continuing, not to mention the offenders involved. And the kids are only going to follow the direction of the grownups and those who are in charge and deliver out the consequences of their actions if there are no immediate consequences then why should they worry or change? So if Oak Park, Il is interested in creating a bunch of rapists they are doing a good job! Ha! Oak Park, IL created cul da secs decades ago because they feared the crime from the Austin area spilling into their little community, probably because they wanted to create a culture of veil on their own!

Here is the article from the local newspaper that brings up more questions regarding this incident:

Here is the Change.org petition sign off against the rape culture that the Oak Park River Forest High School is inept in protecting and the Oak Park Police Department is slow to putting an end to:

Oak Park, IL OPRFHS Sexual assault pt 1

So from what I understand these “athletes” trespassed upon the wrestling coach’s property with the victim and without the property owner’s knowledge accessed the liquor which lead to the sexual assault; and the only person penalized here is the coach? The incident was reported on August 31st but only a week or two ago was the parents of the school notified about the incident.

Plus, the school still has the majority of the athletes involved in the assault still in school? Why? Because as stated on Channel 5 news that the Oak Park River Forest High School is waiting on the Oak Park Police Department to conclude their investigation, but then why is the coach suspended? Why does he get immediate punishment what details or involvement to this event does the school know about that has not been told to the parents, student or the general public?

You cannot just put employees on suspension unless there is ample reason to do so, there are so many facts missing here it seems that the Oak Park River Forest High School is trying to deflect this issue or just aim people towards a convenient scapegoat. But how does suspending the coach or stopping the athletes competing in wrestling solve the main issue of this rape culture? It doesn’t it only sweeps the problem underneath the rug, by putting the spotlight on something else or in this case someone else to keep the blame being placing on the school. And maybe it should be placed upon the school. Especially since the school is more involved to keeping everything status quo with no regard for the safety of its students.

Here is the article that discusses further the incident and the suspension of the wrestling coach:
