Snow removal parking plan in Oak Park, IL

I always forget that when the snow falls Oak Park, IL to watch out for tickets! If there is a two-inch snowfall then the village’s Snow Removal Parking Plan goes into effect and therefore main streets must be cleared, and the influx of traffic on other streets increases.

Meaning it becomes harder to find a parking spot. And do not try to park in a spot that is already shoveled out, I did that by mistake once and got a “hey golly!” for my troubles. Seriously. Then on the side streets, it’s parking on the side of even-numbered address on even days and parking on the side of the street with odd-numbered days on odd days. Just the dumbest shit ever. And yes, I have gotten a ticket or two, for not remembering the odd day-odd parking placement requirement. This happened once when I had a day off and just slept in for the day. And the other times was when I was bedridden sick and could not go out into the cold.

These type of parking games is just infantile. I bet it probably stresses the shit out of seniors who still drive (and park on the street) when winter comes to Oak Park, IL. Because it sure unnerves the shit out of me. Plus, this type of arrangement makes me wonder why there is not an emphasis on building parking garages for rental properties or just residents in general to combat the need for such stupidity.

This is the parking rules verbatim from the article:

Main streets posted as snow routes must be cleared of all parked cars. These include Augusta Street, Austin Boulevard, Chicago Avenue, Division Street, Garfield Street, Harlem Avenue, Harrison Street, Jackson Boulevard, Lake Street, Madison Street, North Avenue, Oak Park Avenue, Ridgeland Avenue, Roosevelt Road and Wisconsin Avenue from Madison Street to the emergency entrance of Rush Oak Park Hospital.

Non-snow route streets allow parking between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. on the side of the street with even-numbered addresses on even days and the side of the street with odd-numbered addresses on odd days.

Designated commercial parking areas as posted follow the odd/even rule between midnight and 8 a.m.

Snow parking rules do not override other parking regulations, such as time limitations and prohibitions.

Vehicles parked in violation of the snow restrictions are subject to ticketing and towing.

Oak Park, IL residents suing against affordable housing is just blatant…

The funny thing about the Oak Park, IL residents suiting against a project for affordable housing is that they are using regulations regarding height and parking/traffic restrictions for the area. The first thing you think of when residents sue against affordable housing when they state it would bring down the property values is blatant racist. The you look at he excuses they use “traffic” “parking” “construction height” etc. and in a way, you are like: “man they may have a point.

That’s if the height restrictions for the village was not set aside for all the construction near Lake and Harlem avenues and traffic in that area has just gotten worse. So really these excuses are bullshit. You may even state that Lake and Harlem is considered downtown Oak Park, IL and is different from this more residential area but is it really? Then you also have to think when will Oak Park, IL think about the future when it comes to developing the properties in the area?

Is traffic and parking a valid excuse when this is a problem that occurs everywhere in the village already? No, it is a problem because affordable housing brings minorities and poor people to their affluent area. Property values going down because of affordable housing? Maybe. But what the hell is there now? Do a Google search there is an empty lot. I am pretty sure that lowers property values than a huge four-story building.

Therefore, to me again, Oak Park, IL is just showing its true colors. A lawsuit against affordable housing is just a victory for injustice, the one thing Oak Park, IL states as a community they are against. They state and post little signs on their lawns that “Hate does not have a home here…”  Well I think it has found one on Oak Park Avenue and Van Buren Street.

Here are the articles describing the lawsuit:

Trip through the old neighborhood: Lakeview

Nothing like a trip to the old neighborhood to do one well, I visited some of the old spots, but since I had to drive back to Oak Park, IL I could not drink! It was great hitting up crisp, molly’s, sultans market then flying through the DePaul university campus (area). And I realized that it took less time travelling from Lakeview to Damen than it takes me to get from Ridgeland to Oak Park ave on lake street. I left liberated traveling at 25 mph and actually getting somewhere!

Something most people in Oak Park, Il will never understand unless they travel outside of the village. I overheard one coworker stating that she only drives from River Forest to her home, condo in Oak Park, Il. Yeah, I know! I felt sorry for her…. But not really lol.

She doesn’t know what she is missing and I wonder if there are others like her. It is very sad to have such a limited view of the world and to limit one’s experiences to one part of the world like that. But that is cool I rather be running rampant through Lakeview etc. than stick my head in the sand and drink Oak Park, il’s Kool aid any day.
