Happy “National Freedom Day!”

Happy Black History Month! Although that this, is of course, the shortest month of the year (don’t get Ma Pro started) it is a time to celebrate African American culture here in the United States. Today is actually “National Freedom Day” the day that President Lincoln started the process that ended slavery in the United States, later ended by 13th Amendment to the Constitution. Congress created a resolution that made today National Freedom Day in 1947 and President Truman made it law in June of 1948.

Meaning that even though President Lincoln made Slavery illegal it took many years and decades to have this basic tenet that every person is free in our Country to be recognized. Even though there are still tons of racism, being played out everywhere in our country and even in places like Oak Park, IL there is still hope. By recognizing that freedom is for everyone on a day like today we acknowledge that everyone should be treated equal and be given an equal footing until every man, woman, and child is on an equal footing we got a long way to go.

Here are some more sites that gives you more information regarding “National Freedom Day” I hope you enjoy the information, and happy reading!
