Violent Carjacking and murder in Oak Park, IL

Unfortunately, there has been another more tragic than usual, senseless crime that has occurred in Oak Park, IL involving a carjacker and a gentleman that tried to stop him that ended in the victim being killed. There have been suspects questioned but that is about it. The unnerving thing about this is that it occurred at 6:40 pm outside the Jewel on Roosevelt road across from the Big Guys stand, this area has heavy traffic so I cannot imagine how the suspect got away nor was able to drag the victim with the car.

It also reminds us that no matter what we have been “sold” about an area being safe like Oak Park, IL we must remain vigil and constantly alert because there is always some scumbag trying to take advantage of us. The only positive thing that can be taken from this is a lesson (in three parts):

  1. to remain alert of your surroundings no matter where you are at whether it is the Southside of Chicago to the borders of Oak Park/Berwyn, Il
  2. Never leave your car running unattended no matter how quick you think you can accomplish the task it just gives scum like the criminal in the article the opportunity to rob you blind or in this case, worse.
  3. If you do get carjacked: let them take it, and report it to the cops and then your insurance immediately. Even though you need a police report to start the process with the insurance company it is best to get something started as soon as possible.

Hopefully, with this crime happening on the border of Berwyn and then escalated up Harlem Ave, ie: Forest Park, other law enforcements entities will be able to join in the search for the killer of this young guy trying to do the right thing.

Here is the article that discusses more about what happened during this senseless crime:

Crime in River Forest and Oak Park, IL

Ah so there has been an uptick in crime in River Forest the area that is usually not touched by crime as Oak Park, Il usually is but now is getting the brunt of its isolationist policies. Both suburbs are linked together in more ways than one, and unfortunately, both are bordered heavily by poor black areas. Oak Park, Il has the Chicago Austin area and River Forest has the suburb of Maywood, I mean if I was on a board of trustees or governing body I would try to reach to these areas to see what I could do to bring some economic development to these areas so hopefully it would attract investment back into these communities and reduce crime.

But noooooo, Oak Park hides behind cula-da-sacs and River Forest hides behind a huge network of Forest Preserves as if criminals wouldn’t run through a forest, obviously, the city planners never watch a Friday the 13th film before. As the crimes are more economic based than run of the mill crazy violence. Therefore, it must be determined what are the motivators behind the criminal’s actions and there is nothing more motivating than living across the street from a bunch of self-delusional shmucks who think an address guarantees safety.

I thank god am not one of those people and I am paranoid, as the good people of Oak Park, Il like to call it, 24/7 but at least I still have all my shit. So until these burbs take the reasonable approach and help build up the communities around them the problem will always exist and problems like these will always get worse.

Burglaries in River Forest rose in this article:

Trump wall or Oak park, Il cul-de-sacs?

I was in a store over on Harlem and Lake and I overheard two ladies talking about how Trump is going to build a wall and how racist he is, now I do not care where you are in this debate the last thing you want if you are against such a wall is to get the help of hypocrites from Oak Park, IL on your side to help. Hypocrites? Yes, since 1964 to about 1977 Oak Park, IL built cul-de-sacs as a means to limit the traffic from a growing black population in the Austin area, which Oak Park, IL shares a border with. With arguments of stemming crime and undesirables the cul-de-sacs were built to mystically stop criminals from coming into Oak Park, IL does that sound familiar?

Exactly! So to hear anyone from Oak Park, Il to bitch about Trump’s wall or how racist he is, with these cul-de-sacs still in place is just ridiculous. A cul-de-sac does not stop robberies, murders and rapes look at the crime statistics for this area plus there are articles stating how ineffective cul-de-sacs are to stopping crime citing the Oak Park, IL cul-de-sacs as an example! Ugh what is the old saying? “People who live in glass houses should not throw stones..”?

How about before you are butt hurt about how racist someone else is, you look around you to make sure that your own actions do not exhibit such racist. Why? Because actions speak louder than words. Trump could never build a wall, saying it costs too much, then what? There will still be the Oak park, IL cul-de-sacs on Austin. What if Trump gets his way and does build a wall? There will still be the Oak park, IL cul-de-sacs on Austin. The point is while these Oak park, IL cul-de-sacs on Austin still exist, no one from Oak Park, IL especially from the time of their origin, should bitch about building walls and how racist people are. Just look in a mirror then take a drive down Austin Ave, and you will see an example of Oak Park, IL’s own type of wall, right here in “paradise”.

Here is the Chicago Reader article about the “Negrophobia” that hit Oak Park, IL summing up how it created the cul-de-sacs on Austin today:

This is a Chicago Tribune article abut how ineffective cul-de-sacs like the ones on Austin dividing Oak Park, IL and Chicago are, all the way back in…. 1993!!! LOL:

The reason why crime does not touch Oak Park, Il

Recently I read a Commentary article called: “I never worry I’ll be shot in Chicago. After all, I’m white” it to me seems that this is the attitude of most non-minority residents here in Oak Park, Il the idea that bad things do not happen in Oak Park, Il stems from attitudes like this. The problem is with this type of foolish it is rationalized, then spreads through the retelling of those “facts” the belief that the law enforcement department is omniscient and everywhere to stop the majority of crime. The so called deterrent to all the bad in the world however foolish as that thought is to those who live in the reality of the real world.

I mean when is the last time di done hear about a violent shooting in Oak Park, IL? When asking that question which the answer is no, we reaffirm the belief that the type of thing does not happen here. Why? Because we let “select” people into the village, we ferret out the “bad’ elements or we racially steer towards Austin avenue so they are closer to Chicago. The problem of segregation in Chicago is the reason why the area has the problems with crime today. The lack of sharing of resources and gentrification the entire city overall is now causing a backlash that has only increased the violent atmosphere we did not enjoy now. Now these were due to policies that were in place for decades since the founding of the city, one can hope that with the new opening of a Whole Foods in the Englewood area, the expansion of the Red line CTA even further south than just 95th street we are finally starting to see that spreading of resources.

Unfortunately, as Chicago is making some headway to reverse some of the idiotic policies of reintegrated America, Oak Park, IL is still enforcing these policies with the simple enforcement of its mindset. I have written about residents simply walking up to me and telling me to move my car in a predesigned (and paid) area for parking, to ease their ascetic values. The belief that she and others like her believe they are protected from all unpleasantries merely due to the color of her skin is just more of the same.

The thought that Oak Park, Il is safe because they certain elements have been excluded is automatically an example of such racism and self-indulgence that will doom Oak Park, IL to one day face the problem Chicago is facing now no matter if they like it or not. Believing that you are better than others does not mean that you are, it just means you do not see your mugger until they are two feet away and up your ass.

Crime around Oak Park, IL

Unfortunately, recently another young man lost his life, a student of Oak Park River Forest High, before his 17th birthday. The Community actually came together and at a vigil in Scoville Park celebrated his life.

The weird thing about it was when I heard about this on the Channel five news to me, it seemed that as it was reported was that this young man died in this far away land, somewhere he and other young people should not venture to. This land of Austin, the Austin neighborhood where I grew up, is not far away at all, in fact it borders Oak Park, IL in other words it is, literally RIGHT across the street, the street named… Austin avenue.

Decades ago, to stop the “stem” of crime from the Austin area Oak Park, build cul de sacs to deter the bad elements from simply driving across Austin into Oak Park, IL. Now, there have been a few debates how effective this is, but it does not trump the point that there is some mythical belief that these simple barriers eliminate the dangers of crime and danger from The Oak Park, IL area.

Instead of residents actually realizing that this area, the Austin neighborhood, is literally next door, and trying to live up to their hype as an upright community and help this ailing area. The idea being perpetrated is that it is a problem for “over there” that Chicago’s issues do not affect Oak Park, IL. Where this young man’s death shows otherwise, one could only hope that this starts the conservation or action amongst Oak Park, Il residents to see how they could invest into the Austin area to either help combat crime and/or poverty found in this area.

Again, many would say “why bother?” because invisible make believe borders do not guarantee safety as we have seen, time and time again, in the news regarding terrorist attacks. If we gather and apply the same amount of resources to the crime upon the neighboring streets of the Austin community, we might be able to save a few lives and possibly make Oak Park, Il live up to its hype.

Instead of making this young man a statistic and simply thinking that “he shouldn’t have been there in the first place” Oak Park, IL could use this as the catalyst to create a partnership with this neighborhood, much like they do with River Forest, and helps their neighbors as good neighbors should. But I doubt Oak Park, Il will dare to venture across the street, to help anyone out, even their own.
