“family friendly” Oak Park

There was nothing in the pipeline for a couple of days all of the sudden everyone wants to now be in my face and hangout. Total yuck. I was looking forward to being alone. The surprise of the week or flavor of the month either way I guess I am going to have people over or have people visiting. Trying to find entertainment or a way to entertain people in always hard. Searching for something to do in Oak Park, IL is almost like doing research for a major research paper.

Sounds redundant but however most of the people who come through usually do not want to deal with young kids or go somewhere that closes as early as 9 pm. Both caveats are very hard to come by in this area. Oak Park, IL plays the “family friendly” card way too well, while letting the outer suburbs have the scummy adult theatres and bars to take care of the rest of us. Yeah, I said it. Oak Park, IL is more of a waystation, a place that you leave from than go to, when you want to do some living. The village is almost like that place you throw away those kind-of-extreme fun things to do and just settle down and die.

I do not think I could hit sixty and feel like I can be okay with such a scene. The overwhelming sense of boredom is probably why Hemingway left and so many other famous individuals who became successful and never came back. There is just a lot of blah here and no substance.

“No face pics baby?” Riigghtt

Most people ask why I don’t show my face on social media as much, have an Instagram account or do livefeeds good questions, easy explanation: people are fucking crazy. Well it goes back to when I first started the blog and I started a twitter account for it to increase the avenues to speak of my “love” for this village. However when I started to discuss Hemingway some dude just came out and attacked me, now, to be fair, I think he was selling a book of something, so the dude needed heat or some shit. I simply ignored the asshole because he gave me the creeps.

All the articles or information I had on Hemingway was preexisting and can easily be found online all I did was merely put it together in a format for people to reference or read at their hearts delight in one place. This of course was all before the #metoo movement which the dude would have thought twice about exhibiting such behavior, however it was enough for me to just do the blog on WordPress and blogger and that’s it. Extending it more means more time to this project, and add to that I am not getting paid why bother overextending myself with some dude who wants to argue about facts is just silly.

Argue about facts, facts about Hemingway that have been previously established by authors and historians, to me it just seemed a bit “crazy pants” so I left that dude alone and left the blog stuff limited to just the platforms I have previously mentioned. I definitely do not like having stalkers or nutjobs that feel the need to argue about nothing and for no reason. That is just crazy as shit, and anyone who knows me knows I am only crazy when given a reason. LOL so that is the answer to that question.

The new Target in Downtown Oak Park, IL is getting a liquor license

I think it is fantastic that the new small format Target on Lake and Harlem is getting a liquor license! You can get a bottle and drink before you go into Bar Louie or anywhere else in downtown Oak Park, IL the funny thing about this vote is that the mayor abstained like he is above liquor licenses! But hey he will build high-rises all over the place probably is looking at Ernest Hemingway’s home as a possible area for development too!

It is time to bring liquor to downtown Oak Park, Il and show the residents how we party and how we can be just like Chicago. I hope everyone realizes that with this September 5th vote that the old Oak Park, Il is becoming extinct. It is wine time homies! Hopefully Target will be able to sell liquor at all times, and have better prices that the liquor stores down Harlem (at Madison Avenue, for example). I am really glad that the area will be getting more traffic and now liquor whooo great job village trustees to breaking down the old Oak Park, IL and replacing it with one that is being sold out at a rapid rate!

Here is the article briefly mentioning the liquor sells at the new Target in downtown Oak Park, IL:

Oak Park, IL blog related: Ernest Hemingway quotes

I noticed on imgur that there were some crazy Ernest Hemingway quotes, I found some of them funny as hell. Now I do not know if any of them are direct quotes (this is the internet) but the picture of Hemingway coupled with these quotes is just hilarious! Although there are the “experts” out who will kill this fun for the rest of us, but f them. I am posting some of them on Facebook and here on the blog because I think it is hilarious.

  • “Write drunk edit sober”
  • “Never go on trips with anyone you do not love..”
  • “I drink to make other people more interesting”

Hell, it will make you look smart while unnerving the “purists” who will argue the quotes. On the basis of Hemingway making the quotes it would go like this:

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

“If Hemingway actually made the quotes, or not….”

“If Hemingway actually made the quotes, why…. (what circumstances lead to it)”

“If Hemingway actually made the quotes, who were they meant for….”

“If Hemingway actually made the quotes, was it a part of his mental issues….”

As annoying as that is, it IS what I get from time to time, just little ridiculous lunatics proving their brain power, instead of actually getting outside and mingling a little bit with others. People, dogs, pigeons, whatever light the world ablaze with these funny quotes and pictures (memes).

Hurricane Irma: The Oak Park, IL connection: Ernest Hemingway’s Key West house

The Oak Park Il Connection to Hurricane Irma was the Hemingway House down in Key West, you know the house that now has reportedly 54 friggin cats! Now it is stated that Ernest Hemingway got a six-toe white cat once, but how it ballooned to 54 is just freaky. Another thing to think about is the fact this is where Hemingway did a lot of writing, so therefore preserving the site should be of major importance. I mean it is Ernest Hemingway an Internationally acclaimed writer and literally icon.

Was there any damage to the internal working of the house? Were valuable papers and knickknacks safe or if damaged are in a state that they can be easily restored? What are the contingency plans for the staff during Hurricanes as strong as Irma? How will climate change determine the plans to protect the staff or even Hemingway’s personal items in the near or longtime future?

However, “fantastic” Hemingway is, the talk was about the 54 cats! Totally crazy and hilarious at the same time.

I mean even Fox news wrote an article about the condition of the cats, no matter how much of a national treasure any Hemingway fan, or Oak Park, IL or English teacher tells you me is, cats matter more. The interview is interesting as the host obviously did his research on the property and Hemingway. But the Curator when interviewed is a bit off but the interaction tells you a lot of great information but the discussion goes towards the cats. The interviewer magically asks about the smell of the cats in the house HAHAHA. Fun to watch.

Note that the granddaughter Mariel Hemingway (the actress) of Ernest, implored the staff to leave. “What about the smell?” HAHAHA

Oak Park related: Happy Birthday to my “brother”!

To my brother in sin, and anguish Ma Pro happy birthday today and hopefully many more! I have realized how to keep my social media presence to a minimum and eliminate the number of stalkers I have or may have due to him. There are still the idiots who I still have to get back to like on Twitter telling me about their expert opinion of Hemingway (which a lot of people questioned) to creeps who wanted to “hookup” and wanted me to respond to their Instant message immediately and call me a “bitch” because I didn’t. Both could not be as bold in person, on the street, in person without help. But that is beside the point.

When I wanted to fly off and get crazy this was the dude who was like “they are just “jealous” or “have some type of mommy issues” so just ignore them…” in one word: wisdom. Sometimes you cannot allow people who think they are invincible online and want to say whatever to you to get you triggered. And this dude who is FAR more Westside than I am, cooled me off (with the longest tongue I have seen) to get back to business, enjoying the summer and partying than simple little issues.

Plus, when I have tech issues or dealing with Google’s shady shit it is great to have a person who can be a great resource and can reread all the legal crap over and over again till we look at each other like “wtf”?  Thanks, Ma Pro!

Multiculturalism in Oak Park, IL… there’s some not a lot!

I have discussed multiculturalism in Oak Park, IL and how some say they want it but resist change, that is part of why Chicago is one of the most segregated cities in America. Recently without much fanfare, there was a multi-cultural event in Oak Park, IL yes, that means someone is doing something about the inclusive nature here and presenting the various types of cultures to the people of Oak Park, Il. No matter what. I would like to see events like these get the “hype” like the “Hemingway” area does or special events like the “Wright runs” that occur time to time.

Now at the Oak Park library, they have acquired an article of multicultural significance for people (educators mostly) to check out and present to the public, and recently they had the 37th Annual Ethnic Festival and World Languages Day at Julian Middle School with a collection of the acquired material on display. Usually being an adult, and with no kids except nieces and nephews I do not pay attention nor know about this type of events that happen on school grounds. However, I am glad there was a slight mention of this type of event because of the area of Oak Park, Il needs more exposure to various cultures and languages I think it would do not only the kids some good but the older residents as well.

Knowing more about people who are different than us, means we can co-exist with them we can gauge similarities and differences with a level head instead of from a point of moral superiority. Maybe in the future Oak Park, IL will promote this type of event more, so that the people here can grow and understand other communities and cultures better. By opening one’s mind up to other communities one become less inclusive, change the mindset what exists right now, in Oak Park, IL maybe even for the better.

Here is the article that discusses the newly acquired collection and the 37th Annual Ethnic Festival and World Languages Day: http://www.oakpark.com/News/Articles/5-9-2017/At-Ethnic-Fest,-Multicultural-collection-stands-out/

A Frank Lloyd Wright themed bar in Chicago, not Oak Park, IL!!!

I have always said that the village of Oak Park, IL should try to do something that is small business related to their so-called legendary heroes of Hemingway and Wright. But a Heisler Hospitality and Jim Meehan collaboration will do so, in… Chicago’s loop! They are bringing a bar that pays tribute to the architecture of Frank Floyd Wright in the loop, taking away any chance or originality on the part of anyone in Oak Park, Il coming behind them and doing right or even first.

This is a great way to bring recognition to the Wright name once again to a younger crowd who may not even pick up a history book or believe that architecture is boring as hell, this brings it up a notch. This is just in time for the Wright’s 150th birthday this way people outside of the Architecture world and Oak park, Il can learn about him and after a couple of drinks celebrate his great architecture. Plus, there is a chance to get a free tour of some of the architecture designed by Wright in Oak park, Il

Increase in Rental rates in Oak Park, IL

It is no argument that renting here in Oak Park, Il sucks the village tries to nickel and dime you for everything as if you own a home here too. However now it seems most rental properties are trying to raise the rental prices in Oak Park, IL LOL and for what??? This is a shitty little village that is getting fleeced out by the minute, half the village that is affected by it is crying a river the other half that is not does not give a shit. But that is okay, charge people sky high prices and they will go elsewhere to Berwyn, Cicero, Oak Lawn, Orland Park, you know better suburbs with better city planning.

With a 9% increase in the rental prices people are no longer looking to come to Oak Park, IL now you may say “who gives a shit” but those are people who would move into the area and spend their dollars at local businesses and buy parking stickers for their cars, you know tax dollars that go to that stupid ass pool at the local school. Now those dollars will go elsewhere, it does not help that Oak Park, IL is losing its mystique as is, no longer the quaint peaceful darling of Chicagoland suburbs with all the development happening around town.

Destroying whatever romanticism, the names of Wright and Hemingway brought to this place now, you have all these factors pushing people out to the point that what really lies underneath the façade of Oak Park, Il really shines through. As a place that you cannot afford, a place of corporate shrills and sellouts, a place that only welcomes you if you are the “right fit” diversity my ass. Oak Park, Il does not want your ass here and it is finally showing it.

This article shows the increase in the Chicagoland area:

Prince Channel (YouTube) playlist: For the 1st Anniversary of Prince’s death

Growing up my parents listened to various artists, however, there were two artists that they always played Michael Jackson and Prince, after awhile of hearing both artists I eventually grow up listening and liking Cypress hill (Westside), Rihanna, and Eminem mostly to drive my folks crazy. However, I always to these two mega artists due to long car trips on vacation or what I thought were long trips as a kid, to visit family. Schaumburg and Norridge are not that far to the adult me!

But when I forced to listen to one or the other it was always an easy choice: Prince. I must admit I thought this dude would live until 70 something playing guitar and having girls 50 years younger than him dancing around him forever. I did at first like the fact his cussed as a kid and teenager you tend to like the things that buck the system. That and the man had a music catalog that could extend on for hours so this was an easy choice. Although I hear it is an issue of “great debate” to me it is not.

When I heard last year that he died I was like “what?” it was weird to hear a mainstay of your life even if indirectly touched by that person, to all the sudden die. I wonder if this is how Oak park residents of the times of Wright or Hemingway felt, it leaves you thinking there will never be someone as talented or original this person. I am a big lover of guitar work nowadays and Prince is probably the most underrated guitar players on the planet. So in respect of this talented artist I have made a YouTube, com list with some of his best and unknown songs.

Here is the list that is on this link for the Prince Channel I started:

  • Prince “Cream”
  • Prince & 3RDEYEGIRL – MARZ
  • Prince & 3RDEYEGIRL – ANOTHERLOVE [Official Lyric Video]
  • Billy Jack Bitch
  • I would die 4 u
  • Prince 1999
  • Prince Let’s Go Crazy Kiss in Arsenio Hall Show, 1991
  • Prince, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne and others — “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”
  • Prince – GMA June 16, 2006
  • 3RDEYEGIRL Let’s Go Crazy Reloaded The Beautiful Experience Aarhus Denmark Aug 72013

Here is the link for the Prince Channel it is only 10 videos so far but a good start: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBTSySTdmLMpMHnc1o2_outBwxgC6KCJz
