The mismanagement of Oak Park, IL

The intent of having management or people to manage is to take care of the body or organization it is made for however this is not the case in Oak Park, IL. I went to a restaurant in the Lake and Harlem area on my lunchbreak and the area was basically deserted. As if people (residents, tourists, etc.) Gave up on going through the area, as if the traffic combined with the past construction in that area has left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth.

There was literally four people (me included) walking the streets there were even no homeless people on the street asking for money, and it was unusually warm out Tuesday. I am not sure if those managing the village are equipped with handling this type of issue. They are simply following the ethos of “build and they will come…” however the combination of less traffic (foot, car) the increase of for rent signs, and empty store fronts says otherwise.

In other words that this strategy does not work people are being deterred by all this busyness and are seeking other places to shop and other ways to traverse the area. Which is terrible for the overall plan or the application of this theory to this particular area of Oak Park IL. Like stubborn children those who manage Oak Park IL are not interested in these facts and rather fail than admit defeat or failure.

Although it is great to be the only one in line during the lunch rush and to have all the attention on you because there is no one else in the restaurant I just hope that this occurrence is not wide spread or happens too often. I would hate for some of my favorite restaurants to go under due to the simpleness of a very few.

Plastic bags are now 10 cents each in Oak Park, IL part 2

The 10-cent plastic bag tax went into effect I feel like this is just like the soda pop tax where local stores will lose business to other areas just because people will shop elsewhere due to the principal of the thing. I don’t blame them I mean I try my damnest not to buy plastic bags in Chicago. Score one for the environmentalists but score a vote for anyone running against the incumbent in office. Although there may not be a lot of change there will be an intelligent smart few who will remember this shit when at the polls.

And so, it should be in Oak Park, IL where the community already focuses on the recycling of most the items that go to waste. Charging 10 cents a bag is just a way to have people have disdain for the village, and it basically looks like a money grab by the village board. Stupid taxes just look like overreach and/or too much “big” government for everyone. If you were not responsible enough to recycle plastic bags in the first place would this force your hand? Not likely

Instead you will like most of us buy less, only the shit you can carry or like I said before going elsewhere like Forest Park to buy your items so you don’t have to put up with this stupidity. My family recycles a lot ever since we got those little blue bins however those neighbors that did not recycle did not immediately start recycling or even tried to recycle when they received theirs. In other words, taking plastic bags away from these individuals will not make them recycle more but maybe just the opposite.

Instead it may harden their resolve and as I aforementioned go to Forest Park to buy their items and stock up on as many plastic bags that they can. Making the situation and environment worse, or it may turn them off to recycling 100% which is the exact opposite goal or purpose of the plastic bag tax, only time will tell.

Plastic bags are now 10 cents each in Oak Park, IL part 1

So as we all know now, that the plastic bag 10 cents fee went into effect in all of Oak Park, IL. I just ran into Jewel on Roosevelt near Harlem and there was this poor jewel worker cornered by two senior citizens complaining that there were no notices regarding the tax or signs telling them about the tax. Like it was the fault of the Jewel organization that they were not informed about the tax.

First that is their old ass problem bitching about all they saw on the news was “fires in Brooklyn” well it WAS announced on the news they just did not pay attention to it. Second the elected officials not Jewel are responsible for the tax. Therefore, if you voted for them and they played “sneaky sneaky snake” by using stealth by pushing this new law through that again is your fault. It is up to the citizens to hold officials accountable and make sure they are transparent at all times so that they know that their interests are being watched after and tended too.

Instead of just blindly following those elected officials and voting on their “faith” on what those officials say. In other words, do not bitch to the workers of your local stores because they most likely do not even live in Oak Park, IL and second what the hell are they going to do about It? Use their magic wand to override the local laws for your dumb ass 10 cents?

Next time how about you do some research before you go to the polls, or raise hell to your officials when they do stupid shit. Before you waste everyone’s, time blocking the store exit bitching about your ignorance. Or better yet use your wallet as your voice and shop elsewhere and give the rest of us some peace.

The Harlem Avenue and Lake Street area

I wish I could be happier but I cannot wait to be done with the school shit. There is more money involved with the added education so the new year will be brighter, even though I got my eye on other positions at other places. The raise will give me enough for a deposit on a new place, so I am very lucky on that point. I recently braved the Harlem and lake area, went into the new target and looked at the new parking areas over there.

I am not sure if everyone was not awake yet or the area is that dead nowadays. Maybe everyone has gotten use to avoiding that area. But I saw like maybe under 10 people in that small area which is weird for any time of day. I think all the construction in the area may have had a negative impact on the area businesses too.

I notice that the pub across from the green line is closed, they had a letter posted to the door which is posted on yelp as well. There was a Thai restaurant that there for years which closed too, also there are a couple more places, businesses that are now available to rent or will be opening soon. Which tells that there was a huge influx in the area economically but the village did nothing to keep these anchors stable or in the area. Same old shit, different day from Oak Park il

Warning going down Harlem avenue south of Lake street.

I have not gone down Harlem near Lake street for a while, due to all the construction that goes hand in hand with congestion. However, I went down Harlem to Washington via Harlem avenue and OMG What a shit show that Oak Park, Il has put on for everyone who goes through this area the traffic is immense and chaotic.

Going under that viaduct which got turned into on lane for the holidays was painful and just stupid. It is amazing that the city planners put an “okay” to this project and let it go on during the winter months when traffic will be at its most complicated. Just a warning to anyone who has thought to use Harlem avenue going northward or even southbound via Harlem and Lake street: Just don’t. At least for the time being.

Google Plus photo collections for Oak Park, IL

I saved some more photos to a Google Plus collection for public use.

“The Forest Park, IL various photos collection”: https://plus.google.com/u/0/collection/84YWJE

“Construction in Oak Park, Illinois” various photos collection: https://plus.google.com/u/0/collection/wgeVJE

The First collection is my first photo dump of Some of the things in Forest Park, IL nothing really major, just some of the stuff I have talked about in the previous blogs, like FP police, Bed Bath and Beyond, but now including the Repainted Forest Park Circle Avenue bridge next to the Ferrera Pan factory. I took most of the photos travelling through the suburb so they were taken quite quickly, I am just glad they were in focus!

The second one is a photo dump of the Construction near Lake Street and Harlem Avenue, especially near the Marion Avenue side street and adjacent parking lots. Just took a bunch of pictures as I walked through one day onto my way to Jerusalem Café which I talk about in my Yelp reviews.

Again, I took the photos for public consumption use anywhere or anyhow that you may. Bitches.

Oak Park, IL related: Travelling down Roosevelt to Harlem Avenue from Des Plaines Ave

Whoa so I was running around from get together to get together and it is bad enough I have to travel through Forest Park, IL to get back to Oak Park, IL but now there are extras to make the traffic issues even worse in which suburbs like that aforementioned busy enough but these two added aspects just make it stupid. Traffic issues there are never really addressed but somehow the local governments like to add to the misery of all those who travel in their suburban streets. And somehow the residents of these suburbs just remain silent as unwarranted changes occur all around them. It seems everyone just grumbles about it however when the opportunities to cause change, such as when election season comes about they vote the same way they did before. And in turn giving those idiots in charge a blank check or an arousing “yes” to doing something even more stupid, one wonders when will change occur and what will be enough?

First, of all there is the construction on Roosevelt Avenue from Harlem avenue to Des Plaines Ave, everything is whittled down to a single lane for a while grinding the traffic down to a crawl. All I can really see the construction crews are doing is redoing the sidewalks on each side with new concrete and red decorative bricks. All this bullshit for something that does not help the traffic issues that plague this street.

Roosevelt and Harlem Avenues, of course, are boundary streets of Oak Park, IL and further, the angry drivers feel as they enter the suburb. As if the small parks with parents who let their toddlers slowly walk across the small narrow side streets isn’t enough now you have drivers who have been pissed off even more to this craziness on the suburban borders. I think that these two suburbs should be more concerned about the traffic issues and finding ways to encouraging people to patron the small businesses in this area. However, all this construction does the opposite.

Second, even though it is the Labor Day weekend, there are a lot of cops in this area particularly, the Forest Park, IL cops who cannot wait to give tickets …just because they are bored. Their added presence is supposed to bring “law and order” which is just code for legal disruption of citizens’ daily activities as they travel from point A to point B. Now everyone knows once normal people see the police all of the sudden people want to do under the speed limit and drive like grandmas.

Which sounds great but at the same time is just as bad as the construction on Roosevelt avenue, and can make your trip three times as long due the presence of law enforcement. As I rolled into the Walmart in Forest Park, IL I did notice that once the cops disappeared on a side street from Roosevelt Avenue that traffic started moving a little bit more smoothly. Instead of directing traffic to overcome the issues of the construction the Forest Park, IL police are always adding to the problem, that is if they are not window shopping in Bed Bath and Beyond.

Here is a possible detour map to miss all this traffic and headache:

Oak Park, IL is averse to hardware stores especially when you need it.

Ugh, so good news the place I want to move too is basically being held for me. Plus, it’s not in Oak Park. Bad news the person who is in it now signed a year lease last week, so I am moving out of Oak Park apartments bullshit. To another place for 11 months in Oak Park, this week so I have everything in boxes. Plus my homie Sarah who has set up the place for me in Berwyn (Berwwwyn!) is getting surgery this week on Friday.

Although I lose a helper for the move I am glad she will get this fibroid thing taken care of. Meaning I am taking the Friday and 30th off, my boss is cool with because they know my situation with Oak Park apartments and would help me put holes in the walls with a sledge hammer if I didn’t want my deposit back. That is also why this post is late tons of shit to do, not enough time. I also noticed besides the ace hardware near Chicago Avenue and Harlem Avenue, what real handyman stores are in Oak Park, Il?

Fulfilling its pussy like image Oak Park, IL does not have that many hardware stores in the village boundaries, as if the most superficial person in the world laid the village out. It’s like the village forces you to get a contractor even to put up a picture on the wall. I had to go to the Home Depot in Bridgeview for boxes for my shit it was ridiculous but well worth it.

I look upon buying these boxes (heavy duty) as an investment for the next time I move. I will already have sturdy, extra boxes so that I am not fucking around at the last moment. But packing this shit to basically go a couple of blocks is fucking crazy. But don’t worry I have more stories about Green Plan management and Oak Park apartments to write. They suck so bad there are plenty of things to bitch about. Peace

A new traffic worry this summer in Oak Park, Il

I see that parents are letting their kids run the streets in Oak Park, Il which is nice to have that luxury but unfortunately, these kids are Not paying attention to the world around them. As I drove down East avenue, I literally had to drive 7 mph as two young girls under the age of 10 rode their bikes in the street. I should state that they were trying to ride their bikes. They were riding those bikes really shitty, like they could not maintain their balance on those bikes.

I really did not want to end up on the news rolling over two kids because they were riding their bikes like a bunch of fucking winos. We all know it would end being these “poor children” who had no parents around to Instruct them probably on the rules of the road or how important it is to pay attention to the vehicles on the road with them. And the Driver is some evil person that is destroying some “white washed world” with the morals of a serial killer. Please.

And it wasn’t like these Little girls were alone in riding in the middle of the street, yes not the bike lane, middle of the road. There was a family of four that Did the same, around Washington Avenue and Ridgeland. Then a couple more girls riding bikes on Harvey all just free and riding through I saw the last group almost got hit by a UPS truck. It shook them up but hey what can you do I am not their parent. I did shrug my Shoulders as I drove by them, still shocked in disbelief.

If parents cannot teach their kids the ways of the world, the world will, and its Harsh and a bitch. Never mind I am forgetting an important point there were only a few people on the road so I anything happened. Not that many witnesses to see anything happen or call for help. And all the drivers were aggressive as fuck so who knows what state of mind they are in.

Oh, and let’s not forget the pedophiles out there, and you got these kids out there unsupervised. Smh. I guess if their parents don’t Care I care just as much. All I know this has become another issue that I have to bother friends and family about when they travel to visit me. As if construction on Harlem and Chicago is not bad enough or the choking small two (parallel) lanes that haunt the travelers of Oak Park now drivers you have this extra traffic problem for the summer as well. Good luck.

Violent Carjacking and murder in Oak Park, IL

Unfortunately, there has been another more tragic than usual, senseless crime that has occurred in Oak Park, IL involving a carjacker and a gentleman that tried to stop him that ended in the victim being killed. There have been suspects questioned but that is about it. The unnerving thing about this is that it occurred at 6:40 pm outside the Jewel on Roosevelt road across from the Big Guys stand, this area has heavy traffic so I cannot imagine how the suspect got away nor was able to drag the victim with the car.

It also reminds us that no matter what we have been “sold” about an area being safe like Oak Park, IL we must remain vigil and constantly alert because there is always some scumbag trying to take advantage of us. The only positive thing that can be taken from this is a lesson (in three parts):

  1. to remain alert of your surroundings no matter where you are at whether it is the Southside of Chicago to the borders of Oak Park/Berwyn, Il
  2. Never leave your car running unattended no matter how quick you think you can accomplish the task it just gives scum like the criminal in the article the opportunity to rob you blind or in this case, worse.
  3. If you do get carjacked: let them take it, and report it to the cops and then your insurance immediately. Even though you need a police report to start the process with the insurance company it is best to get something started as soon as possible.

Hopefully, with this crime happening on the border of Berwyn and then escalated up Harlem Ave, ie: Forest Park, other law enforcements entities will be able to join in the search for the killer of this young guy trying to do the right thing.

Here is the article that discusses more about what happened during this senseless crime:
