Violent Carjacking and murder in Oak Park, IL

Unfortunately, there has been another more tragic than usual, senseless crime that has occurred in Oak Park, IL involving a carjacker and a gentleman that tried to stop him that ended in the victim being killed. There have been suspects questioned but that is about it. The unnerving thing about this is that it occurred at 6:40 pm outside the Jewel on Roosevelt road across from the Big Guys stand, this area has heavy traffic so I cannot imagine how the suspect got away nor was able to drag the victim with the car.

It also reminds us that no matter what we have been “sold” about an area being safe like Oak Park, IL we must remain vigil and constantly alert because there is always some scumbag trying to take advantage of us. The only positive thing that can be taken from this is a lesson (in three parts):

  1. to remain alert of your surroundings no matter where you are at whether it is the Southside of Chicago to the borders of Oak Park/Berwyn, Il
  2. Never leave your car running unattended no matter how quick you think you can accomplish the task it just gives scum like the criminal in the article the opportunity to rob you blind or in this case, worse.
  3. If you do get carjacked: let them take it, and report it to the cops and then your insurance immediately. Even though you need a police report to start the process with the insurance company it is best to get something started as soon as possible.

Hopefully, with this crime happening on the border of Berwyn and then escalated up Harlem Ave, ie: Forest Park, other law enforcements entities will be able to join in the search for the killer of this young guy trying to do the right thing.

Here is the article that discusses more about what happened during this senseless crime:

Cummings Square photo collection

I also went to Cummings Square and took a couple of pictures of the park near Harlem and lake street. No, it is not professionally taken, so lay off the “if you had a better lenses or lighting shit..” because these are just amateur hour. Just trying to take some photos for general use on the blog and for everyone else since there are not a lot of photos online about the park. Especially since the majority of us, past it the majority of the time going back and forth to work, it just seems a shame that no-one looks at this small park even after the renovations to the park house.

I posted the photos here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/collection/oI_wGE

On President’s Day in Oak Park, IL

On President’s day I slept, because I was emotionally drained from the day before, I stayed in the whole day, got my tea and sat here to write some posts for the blog. I was dreading coming back to my apartment in Oak Park, Il I was off from work, and I took the day off from school and even going outside in Oak Park, IL. Driving through the area on Sunday, early in the morning was stressful enough. The area is crazy as hell to get through as is, on a Sunday morning but there are a couple of churches in the area so the traffic gets kind of crazy due to all the parents wanting to drop their kids off for Sunday School. I remember those days when I was innocent before I was even warped by Oak Park, IL.

When I got up and told Sarah fuck the shower and the breakfast I have to get back to the apartment and run through Oak Park, IL like Harrison Ford in Raiders of the Lost Ark (the opening scene)! I hate to be so dramatic but she went through the village a couple of times to visit me or go to Mama Thai or even going up Harlem Ave to get to the Northwest side. Hence, Sarah definitely understood. One of the problems I had was the amount of runners that had one kid in a big ass stroller, one kid barely keeping up with them while they were walking a huge fucking dog, meanwhile, they could not get across the street. As they all finally got across the street I rolled down my window because it was soooo nice out, and yelled: “Stop multitasking!” I mean geez their multitasking could get their kids ran over if I was not paying attention due to texting or was one of those road rage freaks you always hear about on the evening news.

But this did not happen once but like four, FOUR fuckin times! You could not script this coincidence in a movie the audience would have found it as unfunny as I did with this stupid repeating joke occurring over and over in a five-minute span during the film or Television show. Usually, a 24-minute drive was now an hour long as I was trying to get the village of Shit Park, IL by side streets. After life was done testing my patience I got home showered ate some Cocoa Pebbles cereal (yeah I am an adult!), wrote and caught up on my Netflix then slept. Oak Park, IL is so draining that it wasted my weekend and my free day off, ugh, I really hate this place.

Travelling around Oak Park, IL

The construction around Oak Park, Il is annoying including the fact just recently they were cutting trees just before the Christmas holiday, I mean right before. Like on the 21st to the 23rd there were crews on Harlem avenue of all places cutting down trees you know with people trying to do last minute shopping or on their way to go out of town for vacation. And the already small narrow expanse of Harlem going north (two lanes) was cut down to one.

This made it very interesting when travelling around on the lunch break, of course, I was on my way to either go to Wing stop or the Thai place next to it, so I knew getting back would be a mess and I was right, only Oak park, Il would have the least amount of warning regarding this work, and plan to do so, so close to the holiday.

I wonder if any of you had to go through this traffic nightmare on Harlem avenue at this time. It seems like Oak Park, Il never gets its village improvements quite right, and construction can last for months (i.e. Chicago Avenue) or a few really inconvenient days like this project.

Does anyone else have these issues traveling through Oak Park, IL even on the outskirts???

The skyline of Oak Park, IL

The Skyline in Oak Park, Il is changing totally long gone is the pristine folksy atmosphere as bigger and bigger building go up, the romanticism of Oak Park, Il is changing, has gone and now basically forever changed. The Area of Harlem avenue and Lake Street, has become similar to the busier areas of downtown Chicago without any improvements to the traffic situation.

The most gratificating thing about this is that Oak Park, IL tried to hang onto the romanticism bullshit while they are simply being hypocrites and selling their soul to the almighty dollar at the same time!

Thank you, Oak Park, Il for proving you are still, full of shit as always!

Bank Of America expansion stalled in Oak Park, IL

The Marshall field building property … what? I just posted about this! Cool beans! This property on Harlem and Lake I have already bitched about, will be part of the increase rate of traffic at this intersection. The new Bank of America location was going to be another factor into the traffic dilemma, but I said “was” the project is now stalled!

Now having an organization like BOA wanting to move into a property like this like wanting it bad is exceptional, but the area leaders have misgivings of what it will bring to the area? HA! Really??? Because it does not conform to the standard of the “commercial area” and you have a Mary jane dispensary a few doors down, come on!

Although I do not like the idea of increased traffic in the area I think the idea of BOA locating in this spots would probably the best option for LESS traffic being generated at this intersection. Now BOA and another suitor for the location are thinking about going elsewhere and they should because why wait for Oak Park, Il to make up its mind If they want your business to be in THEIR area.

It sounds like a crazy ex that wants you to where the green socks instead of the white ones otherwise they are not going with you to your parents’ house for Christmas -sounds crazy right? So does the reasoning for BOA now being moved into this location asap but what does make sense in Oak Park, IL really? I mean they will have a Target store in the area but no BOA, I can tell which would be more out of place in the area and it is not BOA! I just love the fact that Oak Park, Il shoots itself in the foot every chance it can get. Just Stupid.

Here is the article discussing the delay of BOA moving into the Marshall Field’s building:

Bank of America comes to Oak Park, Il

I saw this old article about the Lake and Harlem area about how the Zoning Board of Appeals approved a small Bank of America location in the old Borders Bookstore location. Although the article below states that the zoning was cleared and it was waiting approval by the village other articles state that the location was approved.

However, I have not seen any development or construction done yet I bring up this old article because as I previously posted that a Target is being introduced into that same very area. The traffic at this intersection is going to become a nightmare.

I think it is important to think or know about this issue not to have something to write about or bitch about but to have in mind at a future time especially when planning trips through this area. The traffic is a doozy now just imagine the increase of traffic when these two businesses are added to this intersection.

Oak Park, IL has a lot of problems due to parking and traffic throughout the village, but this one will be an assfucking of tremendous proportions.
