Happy Halloween!

Hey everyone, Happy Halloween from Oak Park, IL blog!

Here is my haiku for this year’s Halloween:

I will be giving out candy. Dressed up to the nines.

And either being crazy as fuck or drunk as a skunk.

Stay out of trouble which is not hard in Oak Park, IL.

But this is the perfect time to get in trouble.

To do the things you would not usually do.

You can walk down the street with a mask and a large hammer and no one will question.

Today is Halloween O-lay!

List of Haunted House in the Oak Park, IL area

I saw an article about Haunted Houses in the area listed on WGN 9’s website. I, of course loved the 13th floor when I went there years ago. I (and Sarah) basically hung off of some dude who was going through the Haunted house with his girl. It scared the shit out of me, now being older and wiser I think I can go back this year. If you want to get into the Halloween spirit it is a very cool way to do it.

I posted the list that WGN 9 had on their website down below in case you do not want to go to the link. But go to the link anyway you lazy bastard its how these people get paid!

Here is the link where you can type in the name of the Haunted house and find it in the area from WGN 9’s website:

Doctor Sleep-Halloween/Oak Park, IL related

I really hate when there is a gap between original movies or books and a sequel. Star Wars is one example that comes to mind, but this is one movie/novel that I cannot wait for it to come out on November 8th.  On the site ihorror they have a link to the trailer and a brief description about the movie. Dealing with a grown-up Danny from the original movie is a great Segway for a sequel, I am just wondering how much of a connection to the original with the sequel will have. I stoked to have a horror “thing” to do AFTER Halloween because it does get pretty freaking boring in Oak Park, IL.

Here is the link on Ihorror regarding the “Doctor Sleep” movie and the trailer for it:

Halloween music for this years party

When it comes to Halloween pop music, I like the weird to pop up on various screens. For any Halloween events or any Holiday events I usually make a playlist of videos to just “go” while my guests are walking throughout the apartment. Sort of background noise to help get people into the Holiday season and/or establish a mood that is usually set by how I decorated the room or apartment.

For example, creepy classical music is great for a room with a theme dedicated to the Universal Monster movies. When I have a pop horror movie room or an updated movie room, I play songs from Rob Zombie, Lady gaga, or anything equally strange and fast.

I sometimes forget to get a playlist together and usually an event sours or lack because of it. I am not Martha Stewart but adding music to any type of event does stimulate conversation or add to the impact decorations can have. In the past, I might say go on YouTube and create a playlist, but the commercials, two every song gets to be redundant. Nowadays I have the videos saved on a flash drive to plug into a Tv and play them on repeat or I will have the mp3s playing on my computer (not phone) and deposit Bluetooth speakers everywhere. This type of set up is call interruption free.

Now I have to figure out what movies to play for the party…

Netflix’s Halloween movie listing for the 2019 season

For Halloween around here I need tons of information to deal with this area so Netflix and Chill is a parody. So on the site called ihorror they published a list for Netflix’s offering of Horror movies for the upcoming 2019 Halloween season called: “US Netflix Horror Movies A-Z”. I read the entire five pages of this list and there are a couple good movies on there. But the majority are just crap, I am not sure if Netflix thinks people paying for their service would really think “Man, time for some shit scary movies..”

Only person to me that can make any movie even the crap movies entertaining would be Svengoolie. But unfortunately, Netflix does not have someone of his caliber. They had the new Mystery Theatre on there but to me, it was not as funny as the original. And like almost every sequel it is not as good as the original, the same thing for the movies on this list!

Here is the list of the horror movies  that Netflix is offering:

IT Chapter 2-Pennywise the backstory

If you haven’t seen the 2nd chapter of IT, this video contains some spoilers however I think it is a great refresher or way to bridge the gaps between the two remakes: Chapter one and two, with the original miniseries that came out years ago. But it also explains a bit of the changes between the two versions and how the novel played a part in each version. The “We Finally Understand The Entire It Story” gives you a 10 minute synopsis of all of it in a very sleek and easy to follow at work explanation.

Here is the link for “We Finally Understand The Entire It Story”:

However, if you want to go really in depth with the IT saga and want to understand and amaze your friends about the history of Pennywise the clown please watch this 45 minute video on Youtube from Horror History: “IT: The Complete History of Pennywise | Horror History”. I will probably have this playing in the background for my Halloween party on a couple of computer monitors. The interested will be drawn to it while I put the finishing touches on the snacks for the party. Also it is a great Segway if you are viewing the original or remakes.

Svengoolie 40th anniversary

Finally the Chicago icon Svengoolie (Rich Koz) is going to be honored for his 40 years of broadcast infamy the City Council of Chicago, not Berwyn will be congratulating him on his most amazing accomplishment. His original set is of course at the Museum of Broadcast Communications in downtown Chicago. This icon has made Halloween and B-grade horror movies cool for generations and is finally getting his due.

It’s a shame that Berwyn did not honor this legend in the same vein as how Oak Park, forgets some of their other famous sons and daughters. It has to be a suburb thing. But Chicago is taking advantage of this slip up and hosting an event at the Museum to honor him on October 26th so if you want to go to something cool before Halloween here you go.

The impeccable Svengoolie is also on MEtv on Saturdays and Sundays hosting B-movies to the delight of his fan base and the occasional viewer. MEtv is also celebrating Svengoolie’s accomplishment by selling 40th anniversary T-shirts on their website.

Here is the link describing the upcoming event:

Halloween decorations

I am trying to get shit together for Halloween writing articles for the blog but mostly trying to get stuff for my nephew’s birthday which is around Halloween. Therefore, everything is horror themed and since he is getting older the whole gift giving experience is getting easier because now all I have to do is give a gift card and some weird ass Halloween mask and the kid is happy as a pig in shit.

But with all the new movies that are being made via streaming services and in the movies Halloween related material hopefully should be easy to come by. Easier than cleaning out my storage area of all my Halloween shit. I could just put on some True Crime documentaries and call it a day, but I want people to leave my house and not be afraid to go out in the dark after this year’s Halloween party. Just got to see how my budget aligns up with stuff I am going to waste my money on. Having a ton of Halloween decorations makes it easier when I go into stores filled with Halloween stuff.

I have already been in Michaels at North riverside and spent more than 200 in there, the Walmart in the Orland park, il has some great stuff and I recommend go there than the location in Forest Park, IL which is just ghetto. Target is finally getting their shit out but the Target decorations are just lame as fuck. I bought my annual pumpkin LED light, but I was definitely not impressed with anything else they had to offer.

Needful Things which is on the edge of Oak Park, IL seems to have a great display and I will probably check them out. The only other viable Halloween places for decorations is online. Spirit always opens up in some empty storefront in September for the Halloween season, but they had stuff that is overpriced and is poorly made. Part of the problem with Halloween shopping is just that, there is a ton of stuff out there, but a lot of it, is overpriced, poorly made and not scary at all.

No big Halloween plans… thank God!

Thank God the nieces are teenagers do this year’s Halloween is just me myself and I. It is really hard to dumb down or make kid friendly Halloween crap. Just the thought of it gives me a headache. The ultra campiness of it all makes me feel dirty because I know a lot of it is very much like the stuff Oak Park, il espouses on annual basis for this time of year.

To the point no one really knows how to be scary and give these little kids a fright. Now this year I can get a costume not worry about entertainment, food, drinks or decorations and go out and cause havoc. But obviously not in oak park, il anyone in this burb is lucky to be wake past 8pm.

Yawnnnnnn boring!

Needed a break -Update from Oak Park, IL blog

Yeah I have been busy after October I needed a break, the cubs went down in flames really fast in the playoffs then I got dragged to the series. Only to be bored to death, and suckered into trick or treating with my nieces and nephews around Oak Park, IL. Oh, then I have classes I doubled up this time to get done with my degree because Roosevelt university likes to fuck up your financial aid if not that your class schedule is screwed up to the point you have to wait a year to take one fucking class. No, I am not kidding and I am going to Roosevelt online! It is the dumbest shit ever.

So obviously with work, two classes and oh instructors who have no idea what is going then add your fellow students who write at a third grade or can only manage one sentence. I am not the brightest crayon in the box but come on! Therefore, you can understand my focus on getting that shit done, and putting the blog on the back burner. When you are dealing with an influx of stupidity it gets hard to multitask but I will be back.
