My disdain for Oak Park will never leave

Being a student of psychology, I hate to use labels and psychological terminology. But having lived and escaped from Oak Park, I swear I experience some sort of Post-Traumatic Stress whenever I come close to this town or have to drive through it.  For those who may think that statement goes too far, I beg to differ.

My heartbeat accelerates, my eye begins to twitch, I sweat, I curse, and my anger is stimulated.  All of this, as a result of living in Oak Park.  They say that life experiences can change you.  Well living in Oak Park changed me.  And not for the better.

For as long as I can remember, living out south in my youth, I always looked at Oak Park, through the lenses of an immature child. The full trees, along with the manicured and immaculate lawns, almost always drew me in. Well until I actually stepped out of the car, and begin to walk and experience the streets of Oak Park.

If the stress of avoiding dog poop, like landmines that are almost everywhere are not enough, try living near elderly white women who approach other’s like it is their duty to direct the village. Or how about digesting on a daily basis the name of Ernest Hemingway or Frank Lloyd Wright, whom this town utilizes in every marketing ploy imaginable.

Having had the opportunity of living there, I also experienced the lack of parking (I had to move my car at least two or three times a day to abide by the various parking restrictions), news reports on individuals from neighboring towns (the west side of Chicago) coming to this “precious” area to break into homes or cars, or businesses opening up one day, to be shut down the next (damn I miss Falafel).

It is not the hippie-loving easy going atmosphere that I presumed it to be.  It is overly congested, overly populated (with people and dogs) with know it all’s that embrace a very sheltered form of living.

The idea of “vintage” is actually a management’s office way of not updating the apartments. From my experience, painting already chipped “lead based” walls is not the same as updating the apartment.  But if you like to use the word “vintage” like Oak Park almost always does, keep in mind you may have old broke down living arrangements.  Thanks “Green plan management”!

There are many other great suburbs or towns to live in, that are not far from downtown.  After living in Oak Park, I opted out for one of these calmer cities that do not evoke my anxiety to levels of rage. You may want to do the same or at least consider it if you are thinking “No Park” I mean “Oak Park” is the way to go.

Prince Channel (YouTube) playlist: For the 1st Anniversary of Prince’s death

Growing up my parents listened to various artists, however, there were two artists that they always played Michael Jackson and Prince, after awhile of hearing both artists I eventually grow up listening and liking Cypress hill (Westside), Rihanna, and Eminem mostly to drive my folks crazy. However, I always to these two mega artists due to long car trips on vacation or what I thought were long trips as a kid, to visit family. Schaumburg and Norridge are not that far to the adult me!

But when I forced to listen to one or the other it was always an easy choice: Prince. I must admit I thought this dude would live until 70 something playing guitar and having girls 50 years younger than him dancing around him forever. I did at first like the fact his cussed as a kid and teenager you tend to like the things that buck the system. That and the man had a music catalog that could extend on for hours so this was an easy choice. Although I hear it is an issue of “great debate” to me it is not.

When I heard last year that he died I was like “what?” it was weird to hear a mainstay of your life even if indirectly touched by that person, to all the sudden die. I wonder if this is how Oak park residents of the times of Wright or Hemingway felt, it leaves you thinking there will never be someone as talented or original this person. I am a big lover of guitar work nowadays and Prince is probably the most underrated guitar players on the planet. So in respect of this talented artist I have made a YouTube, com list with some of his best and unknown songs.

Here is the list that is on this link for the Prince Channel I started:

  • Prince “Cream”
  • Prince & 3RDEYEGIRL – MARZ
  • Prince & 3RDEYEGIRL – ANOTHERLOVE [Official Lyric Video]
  • Billy Jack Bitch
  • I would die 4 u
  • Prince 1999
  • Prince Let’s Go Crazy Kiss in Arsenio Hall Show, 1991
  • Prince, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne and others — “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”
  • Prince – GMA June 16, 2006
  • 3RDEYEGIRL Let’s Go Crazy Reloaded The Beautiful Experience Aarhus Denmark Aug 72013

Here is the link for the Prince Channel it is only 10 videos so far but a good start: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBTSySTdmLMpMHnc1o2_outBwxgC6KCJz

Oak Park, IL election 2017: Ballot case not resolved

There is another issue of candidates not being eligible for being on the ballot, of course, more corruption in the tiny little village of Oak Park, IL. Tons of property being allocated for development and no planning whatsoever it makes traveling through Oak Park a nightmare and it seems if the village trustees get paid who cares right? Well, bring change to the village has come a whole lot harder and I am thankful that I do not own property in this bitch.

This little shitty little village has become more and more like Chicago and it does not even know it or want to admit it. Another waste of time for the voters, more taxpayer dollars wasted on court hearings crappy played out election results that will lead to favor whoever the money is behind, sounds just like Chicago!

No wonder most residents are heading south to places like Orland Park or even Schaumburg who would want to stay here where corruption is out in the open? Even the legends of Wright and Hemingway cannot restore this village the respectability that it once had, not at all.

Here is the article discussing the candidates on the ballot who may or may not be eligible:

An Oak Park Il blog on … A Wednesday? huh?

Posts on a Wednesday?? WTF??? Recently I have been working wallpapers for the blog for the desktop usage to sharing old posts that did not get my attention when this blog first started. All the while I have been working through the class from hell, with the crazy outburst of a teacher gone wrong. I mean just because you have self-image problems do not make me pay for them! I was in there with a blog buddy of mine and did not know it until we started trading stories so now it is a race to complete our programs to see who will bitch about her first on our blogs!

I updated some of my stuff on Facebook I usually don’t post pictures of me or my friends hanging out but we got lit, like bad, so what the hell. I usually don’t post shit like that because it ends up on twitter were old white guys just want to slap women’s pussies or argue with you the finer points of Hemingway like the know it all shits they are (oh I haven’t forgotten you bitch)!

I am also enjoying the changing of Oak Park, IL into new Chicago, my guess is that it is only a matter of time before the village trustees run this fucking village so far into the red that they vote to become a part of Chicago. I mean look at all the construction around Oak Park, this is not what Frank Lloyd Wright envisioned at all, but of course that fucker has been dead for a generation or two. Times a changing and so is Oak Park, Il heh and the residents are freaking out -I love chaos! See ya soon!

Grammarly for Oak Park, IL blog

One of my fellow students told me to get a program called Grammarly to help with the Grammar issues I have with my papers and assignments for class. I was like “I am nearly done with my degree program damn it!” but besides the stupid “passive tone” warning that I usually get when writing this stuff for school it is a fine program better than the spell and grammar check in the Microsoft word program.

I am just stating this because as I go through the Word document that all my original posts for this blog is on, with the Grammarly program you may notice some changes. Meaning that it will sound/look less like how I talk in the posts and be closer to PROPER English! HAHA! So I know I can be ghetto, sometimes. Anyway I want to put that out there just in case, so y’all know you are not going crazy.

Also If you want to say anything crazy about Oak Park, IL or anything Oak Park, Il related stuff like Ernest Hemingway or Frank Lloyd Wright, I can edit it and post it here just do not be too crazy or racist-y and I will put that shit on here. I know most people do not want to go through the work of posting a blog and maintaining one. Writing a post is hard enough then trying to edit it, add appropriate pictures, adding the right tags all that stuff is a job in itself which I can do for you and state a “Collaborator” sign/graphic to it and the name that you want to be credited for the article. Just email me. I may ask a couple of questions but most likely if it is about Oak Park sucking I will put it out there.

Hemingway Home and Museum pictures are now a video on YouTube.com

I combined a bunch of my old Hemingway Home and Museum pictures from my Google Plus collection with some music, and created video with it on YouTube.com. I titled it: “Hemingway House and Museum (pictures) video” I made it for those who need something extra for school projects or research and since I took the photos you can do what you want with it. Ernest Hemingway information -where do I find it?

I had one reader email me and ask me where do I get some of the stuff that I find on Ernest Hemingway, usually it is online or I do something like go to the Hemingway Museum and Home to gather facts and so I can see how others are officially (physically) presenting the nature of the writer. I usually would go with sites or organizations like the national endowment of the humanities, (neh.com) because they are the official organization headed by our beloved government to handle the categories which Hemingway’s work would fall under.

I also like people who blog about the subject matter, usually you can find tidbits that are not found the major sites but can be collaborated elsewhere and give you fun facts about Hemingway which may be useful if doing a school report or if you are heading out with a group to the Hemingway museum.

These are some interesting websites about Hemingway that touch upon things OUTSIDE of Oak Park, IL the great village that exploits his name every time they get:

Ernest Hemingway’s influence outside of Oak Park, IL

Hemingway’s influence has spanned not only throughout Literature, but into other media as well, from songs to film expanding his influence and mythology of the man and his legend, Even the slightest mention of the writer enhances his legend, but of course not all the mentions of Hemingway is covered by The major parties in Oak Park, IL. Mostly because they artist or parties involved are not reflective of the pristine imagery or just do not have that mainstream appeal that many in Oak Park, IL believe promotes the Heming way brand the way they want.

Take for example Prince who mentions Hemingway in the 1992 song “Love 2 the 9’s” well, the oversexualized artist is not someone you want to link to Hemingway, regardless of his popularity at the time. The 1960’s Batman Tv series mentions Hemingway in the 1966 episode The Bookworm Turns using the “For Whom The Bell Tolls” as a bomb by the villain the Bookworm, to blow up the Batmobile. The Hemingway song, sung by Marie Cain, written by Terrie Frankel, talking about the loves of Ernest Hemingway.

All these fantastic mentions of Hemingway go outside the cleaned up version that is presented by the village of Oak Park, IL they all push the boundaries of how to use the legend. In fact, some of these “clean” factions challenge the famous “wide lawns” saying something taught by most of my English teachers and mentioned by such groups as the National Endowment of the Humanities.

A saying that is as classic as George Washington’s “I would not tell a lie” but since it does fit the convenient or picture perfect presentation of Hemingway it just cannot be, and of course challenged fanatically by these groups.

I do believe all the mentions and usages of Hemingway I mentioned here, could open up more people who never would have picked up a book to be interested in the writings or action of Hemingway giving way to an increase number of fertile minds to who Hemingway was, and other endless possibilities.

But unfortunately Oak Park, Il proves that it does not matter if Hemingway was the actual creator or the “wide lawns” statement or not, that they do have narrow minds especially when it comes to how to reach others who may be interested in Hemingway ways that are different than their own. Maybe, the reason why this happens is because the people interested are different from what this “diverse” village wants include in their perfect little conclaves of culture. Heaven forbid.
