Gay Pride Parade Chicago (2017) was awesome but no pics :(

Went to the Gay Pride Chicago parade I had a good time, however, no usable pictures because every time I tried to take a picture I got flashed! No, not by just the ladies but guys as well. LOL, Therefore I had a good time but had to decide quickly that I was not going to keeping taking pictures of private parts that would mostly get me in trouble online if I posted them. I am still going through them to see if my friend Sarah who went with me took any good ones, but I doubt it because they were flashing her too! HA!

Although it was a good time, it still put across the point of celebrating another community within our equally diverse area. That is still dealing with their fight for rights, that will still show up and be determined to be seen and heard. But in the meanwhile, will still have a good time no matter what. Like I said hopefully, I can get some usable pictures off the phone, but if not I will just wait for next year.

PS: It was great to be in my old stomping grounds again, Lakeview, I sorely miss it. I think I would give up this one bedroom shitty “vintage” apartment in Oak Park, IL for a studio any day! I miss the shops (I will not lie), the nightlife and most importantly the overwhelming diversity and acceptance of individuals from all walks of life in the area. Something Oak Park, IL as liberal as they want to say they are, can never be.

Multiculturalism in Oak Park, IL… there’s some not a lot!

I have discussed multiculturalism in Oak Park, IL and how some say they want it but resist change, that is part of why Chicago is one of the most segregated cities in America. Recently without much fanfare, there was a multi-cultural event in Oak Park, IL yes, that means someone is doing something about the inclusive nature here and presenting the various types of cultures to the people of Oak Park, Il. No matter what. I would like to see events like these get the “hype” like the “Hemingway” area does or special events like the “Wright runs” that occur time to time.

Now at the Oak Park library, they have acquired an article of multicultural significance for people (educators mostly) to check out and present to the public, and recently they had the 37th Annual Ethnic Festival and World Languages Day at Julian Middle School with a collection of the acquired material on display. Usually being an adult, and with no kids except nieces and nephews I do not pay attention nor know about this type of events that happen on school grounds. However, I am glad there was a slight mention of this type of event because of the area of Oak Park, Il needs more exposure to various cultures and languages I think it would do not only the kids some good but the older residents as well.

Knowing more about people who are different than us, means we can co-exist with them we can gauge similarities and differences with a level head instead of from a point of moral superiority. Maybe in the future Oak Park, IL will promote this type of event more, so that the people here can grow and understand other communities and cultures better. By opening one’s mind up to other communities one become less inclusive, change the mindset what exists right now, in Oak Park, IL maybe even for the better.

Here is the article that discusses the newly acquired collection and the 37th Annual Ethnic Festival and World Languages Day: http://www.oakpark.com/News/Articles/5-9-2017/At-Ethnic-Fest,-Multicultural-collection-stands-out/

Black History as told by Oak Park Apartments

The idiots that run my building are full of shit as this is Black History Month they put articles like this on their blog showing how “inclusive” they are :: http://oakparkapartments.com/2017/02/the-history-behind-black-history-month/

While of course shilling their crappy “vintage” apartments on the right sidebar! But what do you expect from Oak Park, IL an article possibly written by an African American? Nah! They do not get those types of jobs. This article is like hearing about the Native Americans struggle as told through the eyes of General Custer.

But I digress it is an article of political correctness, at least have an article about Black History Month when it starts.. damn! It is bad enough that it is celebrated on the shortest month of the year, but if you leave it up to Oak Park Apartments, they would cut another week off it while saying “Oak Park, IL is diverse”… really.

Still got those cul-de sacs up on Austin Ave?

I wonder how many African Americans are placed near the heart of Oak Park in other Oak Park Apartment locations or get their building complaints taken seriously as their other racial counterparts? I am not on a soap box just calling it like it is. I know as a rebuttal the phrase: “ I have black friends” or “I know black people” will come out I just wish it was a forced of a gesture like this article. 7 days later no less.
