Giving pause in Oak Park, IL

Obviously not everyone feels the same way about Oak Park, Il there are some people who do not feel safe who do not feel welcome even though they live here. Who feel that the lack of working towards diversity hurts the community instead of helping it. But that has always been Oak Park, IL’s MO always one of talk and doing the other thing. Hypocrisy at its best. Stating who they are not racist but turn a blind eye to social reform because it would mean they would have to look inward and do the work to make change necessary.

With the obvious lack of leadership on so many levels in the village of Oak Park, IL the village loses its luster and becomes another village that panders good tidings but has its racist overtones still in place. The writer in this article has stated their reservations about the “equity” initiatives in District 97 and District 200 and how they will its implementation will help present and future ethnic generations. They also touch upon how Oak Park, Il is changing in its architecture and its stored skyline faltering. The amount of traffic in these areas where the new condos are going up is staggering and will not change any time soon because the common sense is not there to make those changes.

Obviously, I am not the only person who questions Oak Park, IL’s bullshit and puts the place on blast. If you want to read another dissenting voice in regard to Oak Park, IL just go o the link and give a read:

OPRF students help against domestic violence

I recently read an article about students from Oak Park River Forest raising money to combat domestic violence because they were inspired by a speaker after a domestic abuse survivor shared her story at a school event. Specifically, the student members of the Business Club raised $400 for Sarah’s Inn which is a local organization that assists families that are impacted by domestic violence.

Two fantastic things here, first, with all the news recently about kids and Oak Park, IL has been about racism, yearbooks and such it is great to know that there are some great kids out there. Young adults I should say, that will take the lead against issues that face everyday citizens such as domestic violence and try to do something about it.

Second is Sarah’s Inn to know that there is such a resource within the village is great to know about. It is not really an organization one finds out about unless you are in a situation that you need to find an organization that can help you of your plight.  Sometimes we might hear of an organization like this from media outlets and its usually because the organization is having a fundraiser to gain funds for their everyday operations that we only know about it in passing. Therefore, we do not register that an organization like this exists within our area and could still use the assistance of everyday people like the student of Oak Park River Forest’s Business Club. The same Business club who came out in a big way Kudos!

This is the link to Sarah’s Inn, here victims of domestic abuse can find the help and resources they need in the Oak Park area:

Oak Park, IL we got racism too!

Well I see that Oak Park, Il is back in the news again for racism! Does not matter the form or the circumstances it is all the same shit that is bubbling up from the underneath that is Oak Park, IL. A once proud village that stated “hate has no home here..” but the fact that it states this, pushes the village even further into the media spotlight. We have to hear about how these so called bastard kids were taking photos of themselves playing the “Ok punching game” as if, we all know better.
It seemed like the lies parents tell themselves in order to reaffirm that they are not failures as parents and their kids are not racist assholes. As if kids and younger generations are not privy to the knowledge that exists already to adults, as If there isn’t a thing called google or the internet. It is the parents who are not enforcing the morals and judgments of the ideals of the village or the country professes the ones they were supposedly brought up upon or championed themselves. Yeah we heard that the yearbooks of the students at the Oak Park River Forest high school will be replaced without these pictures. But does that fix the problem?
What happened to the editor staff who should have reviewed these pictures before the books went to print were they disciplined? Whether it was stupidity, ignorance or laziness in the real world they should not be let off the hook, however the village just absorb the cost of this mistake. But why should we? These kids should be without the yearbooks as an example for the future, that such idiotic shit is not allowed. Or so that the other schoolkids can beat the shit out these idiots who put the yearbooks in jeopardy, well, that is how accordingly to my west side ass it should be done. However we are simply making it okay to be racist by just sweeping this incident under the rug and reprinting the yearbooks.
This game evolved to a symbol of racism and by now that is known by everyone who exhibits it at this point of time. And because of some stupid kids and their parents who live in denial the taxpayers of Oak Park, IL are on the hook for reprinting these yearbooks, because where do you think the budget for this school comes from anyway? Not only are we hit with the cost of reprints but now a hint of racism stains the reputation of each resident of Oak Park, IL whether they are a permanent or temporary resident. Only not due to the overt actions of their daily lives, which we are all capable of, no, it is because of the actions of some stupid kids who are now getting away with their racist actions, scott free.

Oak Park, IL is just counterproductive against progress

Going back last year there were white supremacist flyers littering the village, this year racist graffiti, protests etc. therefore to have anyone say there is race baiting or basically ignore the racial issues bobbing to the surface in Oak Park, IL is ridiculous. However, you do have people who rather take offense, than admit there are issues. I love how the denial is lead off with the term “race baiting”! Oh, okay I cannot wait to hear this responsible argument.

But this is the issue with Oak Park, IL you have people who have been so privileged for so long that when that position is questioned or when others different from them ask for fair treatment; there is a fight. With the questioning of opinions with corrections or corrective action so that the opinion is turned upon the person or group that raises the questions is just deflecting from the real issues, very similar to what you would see in court room tv. This in itself is not counterproductive it just makes the problem even worse. Because in most cultures, the term “counterproductive” means that there is a way to repair it: the problem, the issue, the relationship, etc. even though there was a negative impact recently caused.

No, here correcting others in such language makes sure that the discussion is not allowed or not even brought forth. It shuts down others from even speaking up or wanting to interact. Much like an abusive parent being taught positive means of childrearing and reinforcement of positive behaviors in child development. The problem is, that in Oak Park, IL we have people who rather cling to how things are because it means no change and reduction in power. It means that they would not have to share, change, learn or be forced to become the ideals or illusions that they espouse to hold dear or even be. That takes work and self-reflection and there is definitely a lack of that type of humility in Oak Park, IL.

This is the opinion piece that talks about race baiting:

Oak park, Il where even the Local high school is involved in racial suppression

Welcome to Oak park, Il where even the Local high school is involved in racial suppression when it comes to freedom of speech. Organized as a day of remembrance for Trayvon Martin’s death on February 26th students marched as they wanted to exercise their first amendment rights. We have seen these countless times across the country recently with other protests. Whether it was about school shootings or to remember victims of injustice and of course you will get people outside the organizing body to support these actions in one way or the other.

In Oak Park, IL some faculty members actually supported the students in their efforts to protest and were placed on suspension. Now, Oak Park and River Forest High School can state that it is their prerogative to suspend these employees assisting in organizing the march although the School could have used this as a teaching moment to all sides of this issue as a way of peacefully voicing opposing viewpoints or just exercise (again) one’s First amendment rights. However, OPRF went to the extreme and went totally fascist on the assisting employees and suspended them. Now you may think that was the right thing to do however it was not.

All it did was add increased racial tension and divide into the school’s culture, great job school administration! Plus, it gave the Oak Park, IL community and now, River Forest, IL a worse black eye (no pun intended) as a community of racial intolerance ready to stomp out dissenting voices if you work for a system that is espousing views of tolerance however acting with a degree of bigotry. It also increased the school’s time in the local news, not due to the excellence of its academics but for racist graffiti, shit like this, etc. tearing down what possibly most residents move in the village for when they have kids: a reputable school (institution) for their kids to graduation from.

But, they are left with this mess of oppressing dogma, the students in solidarity of those staff that assisted them arranged a sit down to not only exercise their first amendment rights but to shine a light on this injustice as well. If OPRF is fine with silencing these employees who else or what else might this institution be willing to silence to keep things in order or “safe”. No, this is merely something that came to the light because students have had enough for how they are treated in Oak Park, IL. Looked down with suspicion, tinged with racist overtones, the students obviously had enough and most likely so did these employees.

The only reason one can possibly fathom that these employees would jeopardize their jobs is if they were subject to the same type or behavior from the residents of Oak Park, IL as these students. It is easier to support something that you can believe in if you have been impacted by it directly as well, something that was lost in this entire episode. Most possibly by the OPRF high school as well, considering how they operate, “teaching the minds of tomorrow” no wonder why Oak Park, IL is headed on a downward spiral. If these are the actions exhibited in comparison to the values (supposedly) championed by this community, if there is no grasp on reality of how things really are, there is hope, no future here, and then hate does have a home… here in Oak Park, IL

This is the article talking about the school putting employees administrative leave and the sit in that followed:

Here is article from a Chicago news outlet talking about the staged sit in even further and the other issues plaguing the school:

Oak Park, IL residents suing against affordable housing is just blatant…

The funny thing about the Oak Park, IL residents suiting against a project for affordable housing is that they are using regulations regarding height and parking/traffic restrictions for the area. The first thing you think of when residents sue against affordable housing when they state it would bring down the property values is blatant racist. The you look at he excuses they use “traffic” “parking” “construction height” etc. and in a way, you are like: “man they may have a point.

That’s if the height restrictions for the village was not set aside for all the construction near Lake and Harlem avenues and traffic in that area has just gotten worse. So really these excuses are bullshit. You may even state that Lake and Harlem is considered downtown Oak Park, IL and is different from this more residential area but is it really? Then you also have to think when will Oak Park, IL think about the future when it comes to developing the properties in the area?

Is traffic and parking a valid excuse when this is a problem that occurs everywhere in the village already? No, it is a problem because affordable housing brings minorities and poor people to their affluent area. Property values going down because of affordable housing? Maybe. But what the hell is there now? Do a Google search there is an empty lot. I am pretty sure that lowers property values than a huge four-story building.

Therefore, to me again, Oak Park, IL is just showing its true colors. A lawsuit against affordable housing is just a victory for injustice, the one thing Oak Park, IL states as a community they are against. They state and post little signs on their lawns that “Hate does not have a home here…”  Well I think it has found one on Oak Park Avenue and Van Buren Street.

Here are the articles describing the lawsuit:
