Oak Park IL blog related: Chicago Naked bike ride

I was thinking about the weekend will pan out I am going down to the naked bike ride to see some people ride bikes nude I guess, maybe boo at them. nothing too major. I think they should roll through Oak Park, Il because this suburb is supposedly “liberal” free thinkers” and “artsy”. But I doubt that would fly because some of the people here are hypocrites and state they are all that open-minded crap however could not take a minute of this bike ride event for a moment. Honestly if the event rolled through here I bet it would be met with tons of opposition and protests. As if the 1960s never happened or that the residents who practiced free love back in the day were the only ones who should be allowed to do so, ever.

Of course, that is the thing about Oak Park, IL what is good for the goose is not always good for the gander or however that old saying goes, the people here can be so full of themselves that it would leave you a migraine thinking about it. So, save yourself the time, pain and waste of time that would go into figuring out what such a paradox exists. This is simply Oak Park, IL. They would argue, for example, that the event is not “family friendly” and my thought would be: “So?”” That just limits the chance for event participation by singles, non-parental units or empty nesters who may want to see this event or ride in it. But the status quo must be maintained in this suck area and such fun events excluded from riding through the Oak Park, IL area.

Oh well, no skin off my nose I will take myself, my time and dollars to downtown Chicago, because they are all wanted down there, obviously. Meanwhile Oak Park, IL lives up to its boring status as a village and destination one more time. Wondering why people shy away from here? this is an obvious example that nothing really fun happens here in Oak Park, IL shit and you wonder why Hemingway left?

The Bike riders in Oak Park, IL

Can’t stand the bike riders out here, just inconsiderate. Funny how there are bike lanes yet I had to drive behind two riders who were in the middle of the street for more than three blocks. Like in the middle riding through only two-way stop signs at a four-way intersection like they really owned the whole road and by breaking the rules of the road they were getting to their destination faster than anyone else. It was like they were trying to race me and everyone in a car, SUV or minivan.

The fun part was when they finally had to yield at an intersection or get hit. They got upset at this po dunk in an old ass pickup truck and the male bike rider said some shit to get the pickup driver to keep inching forward on them and start him to get out of the truck. Maybe his female companion saw deliverance and decided to talk her buddy from making a big mistake with tumbling with the pickup truck dude or maybe she didn’t want to explain how they were the ones not obeying the rules of the road to the cops.

Either way , hey begrudgingly started back to peddling as I passed them by on my way back from lunch (I was late, but I snuck in), I gave the car a little gas so it could startle them as I passed them up for once in eight blocks. I flashed them a smile and a middle finger for their troubles, like anyone on the road from soccer moms and their minivans to jerk bicycle riders. If you are rude expect for someone to be rude back.

A new traffic worry this summer in Oak Park, Il

I see that parents are letting their kids run the streets in Oak Park, Il which is nice to have that luxury but unfortunately, these kids are Not paying attention to the world around them. As I drove down East avenue, I literally had to drive 7 mph as two young girls under the age of 10 rode their bikes in the street. I should state that they were trying to ride their bikes. They were riding those bikes really shitty, like they could not maintain their balance on those bikes.

I really did not want to end up on the news rolling over two kids because they were riding their bikes like a bunch of fucking winos. We all know it would end being these “poor children” who had no parents around to Instruct them probably on the rules of the road or how important it is to pay attention to the vehicles on the road with them. And the Driver is some evil person that is destroying some “white washed world” with the morals of a serial killer. Please.

And it wasn’t like these Little girls were alone in riding in the middle of the street, yes not the bike lane, middle of the road. There was a family of four that Did the same, around Washington Avenue and Ridgeland. Then a couple more girls riding bikes on Harvey all just free and riding through I saw the last group almost got hit by a UPS truck. It shook them up but hey what can you do I am not their parent. I did shrug my Shoulders as I drove by them, still shocked in disbelief.

If parents cannot teach their kids the ways of the world, the world will, and its Harsh and a bitch. Never mind I am forgetting an important point there were only a few people on the road so I anything happened. Not that many witnesses to see anything happen or call for help. And all the drivers were aggressive as fuck so who knows what state of mind they are in.

Oh, and let’s not forget the pedophiles out there, and you got these kids out there unsupervised. Smh. I guess if their parents don’t Care I care just as much. All I know this has become another issue that I have to bother friends and family about when they travel to visit me. As if construction on Harlem and Chicago is not bad enough or the choking small two (parallel) lanes that haunt the travelers of Oak Park now drivers you have this extra traffic problem for the summer as well. Good luck.

Did you go to the 10th Annual Wright Bike Ride in Oak Park, IL??

Did you experience the 10th annual Wright Bike Ride in Oak Park, IL this year? Yeah, neither did I, I must admit the last time I was on a bike was years ago, not because I am lazy but simply because there is no room to ride one’s bike safely in the streets. Nor does it look like there is any incentive for Oak Park, IL to adjust the roads within the village to accommodate that desire any time soon. Hell, if I can’t walk down the sidewalk without stepping in dog shit I sure as hell am not riding my bike down Oak Park, IL’s small two-way side streets!

Plus. the fact that this ride was shut down a year because there was a lack of participants tells me that even though Oak Park, Il’s recent push into the Divy program may be all for naught. I mean 506 participants is great but it makes this activity such a niche that developing bike lanes or disrupting the traffic in Oak Park, Il for part of the weekend is almost hard to validate (Farmer, 2016).

With help from the non-profit Oak Park cycling club, it remains a part of the community’s stale of yearly events but for how long? When you have negative parking issues brought on by various reasons, rude dog walkers, construction sites started without any common sense and other traffic, navigation issues that it makes this event a deadly “take-your-life-into-your-own-hands” venture.

Although I applaud the Oak Park Cycle club’s mission to improve these types of conditions and help residents get active and healthy but more need to be done to help make the area safe to bike ride for cyclists and motorists (Oak Park Cycle Club, 2016). I do not see this movement getting any bigger without cyclists from other areas outside of Oak Park, Il, nor do I see the village of Oak Park, IL taking the necessary steps to adjust traffic lanes and tearing up streets and down trees to make this a permanent avenue for transportation.

I mean Oak Park, Il is more ascetic not practical or functional, when it comes to construction and city planning, you can simply ask those residents who have to move their car every two hours so they do not get a ticket and they will agree with me. That Oak Park, IL needs to do more to alleviate the transportation issues of the village to make events like this safer and more attractive to the average person. Until that is done, I see this event as a niche novelty more than something we all desperately need to work into our lifestyles to help make us healthier and fit; not because we rather sit in front of our computer screens and troll the internet just because Oak park, IL cannot get their heads out of their asses to do what is sorely needed.
