Oak park, Il where even the Local high school is involved in racial suppression

Welcome to Oak park, Il where even the Local high school is involved in racial suppression when it comes to freedom of speech. Organized as a day of remembrance for Trayvon Martin’s death on February 26th students marched as they wanted to exercise their first amendment rights. We have seen these countless times across the country recently with other protests. Whether it was about school shootings or to remember victims of injustice and of course you will get people outside the organizing body to support these actions in one way or the other.

In Oak Park, IL some faculty members actually supported the students in their efforts to protest and were placed on suspension. Now, Oak Park and River Forest High School can state that it is their prerogative to suspend these employees assisting in organizing the march although the School could have used this as a teaching moment to all sides of this issue as a way of peacefully voicing opposing viewpoints or just exercise (again) one’s First amendment rights. However, OPRF went to the extreme and went totally fascist on the assisting employees and suspended them. Now you may think that was the right thing to do however it was not.

All it did was add increased racial tension and divide into the school’s culture, great job school administration! Plus, it gave the Oak Park, IL community and now, River Forest, IL a worse black eye (no pun intended) as a community of racial intolerance ready to stomp out dissenting voices if you work for a system that is espousing views of tolerance however acting with a degree of bigotry. It also increased the school’s time in the local news, not due to the excellence of its academics but for racist graffiti, shit like this, etc. tearing down what possibly most residents move in the village for when they have kids: a reputable school (institution) for their kids to graduation from.

But, they are left with this mess of oppressing dogma, the students in solidarity of those staff that assisted them arranged a sit down to not only exercise their first amendment rights but to shine a light on this injustice as well. If OPRF is fine with silencing these employees who else or what else might this institution be willing to silence to keep things in order or “safe”. No, this is merely something that came to the light because students have had enough for how they are treated in Oak Park, IL. Looked down with suspicion, tinged with racist overtones, the students obviously had enough and most likely so did these employees.

The only reason one can possibly fathom that these employees would jeopardize their jobs is if they were subject to the same type or behavior from the residents of Oak Park, IL as these students. It is easier to support something that you can believe in if you have been impacted by it directly as well, something that was lost in this entire episode. Most possibly by the OPRF high school as well, considering how they operate, “teaching the minds of tomorrow” no wonder why Oak Park, IL is headed on a downward spiral. If these are the actions exhibited in comparison to the values (supposedly) championed by this community, if there is no grasp on reality of how things really are, there is hope, no future here, and then hate does have a home… here in Oak Park, IL

April 2nd election, racism and reality

I was reading this candidate’s bio for the April 2nd election for Oak Park, IL and one of the main things that hit me was the fact she believed that racism was a main problem in the village of Oak Park, IL. Besides losing shared values and Economic classism these are three things that Oak Park, IL has shied away from facing. And to the point this candidate understands the overall decisions and attitude that Oak Park, IL has and has made impacts the village and the communities around them.

The truth is seeping out on how the established residents here, in their “open-mindedness” are really not as such. To see that others are speaking out about racism here in Oak Park, iL and running on eliminating it or fighting against it at least is refreshing. It is a shame that it would be someone that most residents would consider an outsider that is leading the fight to save Oak Park, IL from itself, save its values and how the rest of the area perceives it. In the end it is not words, or little signs in the front lawn that make an impact it is actually actions that do.

To have a candidate run upon changed the narrative on how Oak Park, IL defines itself speaks volumes. That Oak Park, IL may have a chance is reversing the downward spiral that it really is in. What Oak Park, IL does not want to become is a place or area that most of the area knows as a “place that you are not welcomed” if you are of color or anything else. What Oak Park, IL wants to become is a welcoming village that has values, affordable housing, affordable taxes, great parking, easy traffic and sensible government. Maybe this candidate can help start the conversation into that direction.

This is the candidate’s profile here:

Oak Park, IL residents suing against affordable housing is just blatant…

The funny thing about the Oak Park, IL residents suiting against a project for affordable housing is that they are using regulations regarding height and parking/traffic restrictions for the area. The first thing you think of when residents sue against affordable housing when they state it would bring down the property values is blatant racist. The you look at he excuses they use “traffic” “parking” “construction height” etc. and in a way, you are like: “man they may have a point.

That’s if the height restrictions for the village was not set aside for all the construction near Lake and Harlem avenues and traffic in that area has just gotten worse. So really these excuses are bullshit. You may even state that Lake and Harlem is considered downtown Oak Park, IL and is different from this more residential area but is it really? Then you also have to think when will Oak Park, IL think about the future when it comes to developing the properties in the area?

Is traffic and parking a valid excuse when this is a problem that occurs everywhere in the village already? No, it is a problem because affordable housing brings minorities and poor people to their affluent area. Property values going down because of affordable housing? Maybe. But what the hell is there now? Do a Google search there is an empty lot. I am pretty sure that lowers property values than a huge four-story building.

Therefore, to me again, Oak Park, IL is just showing its true colors. A lawsuit against affordable housing is just a victory for injustice, the one thing Oak Park, IL states as a community they are against. They state and post little signs on their lawns that “Hate does not have a home here…”  Well I think it has found one on Oak Park Avenue and Van Buren Street.

Here are the articles describing the lawsuit:

Sharing is not caring

So now we got 7th graders sharing racist images so school field trip, nice. Most likely he shared it with someone who was not too careful in hiding this idiot’s racist bullshit. Now, before you say “yeah but that stuff is everywhere” or “there are a lot of things that can be considered racist nowadays” today’s grade schoolers are more alert to what is considered racist than us adults are.

The fact that it happened it Oak Park, IL does not surprise me either. It has been become the breeding ground of where dormant racist feelings are coming to light. Now we all now Oak Park, IL has been like this, going back to my past example of cul de sacs in the area bordering poorer areas. Oak Park, IL’s progressive idea to keep poor people for going Indy 500 through their neighborhoods. And now we are surprised and make a highlight of this type of behavior?

Most likely this type of behavior has gone on long before this kid showed up and probably was exhibited by their parents either at home, when they went to school or maybe at a parent teacher conference with a bunch of like-minded friends. The latter is a conjecture, but you get the idea, the “apple does not fall far from the tree” or maybe it is behavior learned from friends either way it is Oak Park, IL.

Hopefully the school can bring in someone with sometime of culture sensitivity training or develop some learning materials from online to help their students gain some type of awareness. Mainly so that the little bigots know that they are not the only type of people in the world before they leave the bubble of Oak park, IL and stop sucking their mom’s racist tit. If you want to operate in the world properly you have to realize there are others different than you, and if you think something like a racist image is “cool” or “funny” think again, because you just got yourself, your family and your community labelled as racists. Good job.

Oak Park, IL is over..

Oh man it’s not a surprise that the village known for its progressive stances has got racism popping off here and there. If its not coming about in the schools its comings about in other forms at CVS to even in stances against affordable housing. You know. Housing for the less fortunate? Real freakin nice.

Not surprising in the least but if you have really moved and grooved in the village and interacted with its residents you would know better. OR gotten a whiff of their privilege uppity shit to know these individuals can easily go the route of spouting some evil ass language. Every once and awhile there it leaks out into becoming an action and bamm you got some plain ass ignorance that is either thinly veiled or blatant.

That’s why Oak Park, IL is overhyped

That’s why Oak Park, IL is overpriced

That’s why Oak Park, IL is over the top and all for no reason.

No reason at all. But its own vanity keeps it from being what it is supposed to be or even more.

Oak Park, IL still has some old tricks

Sarah and I were at the CVS Pharmacy on Roosevelt and we were coming to the front of the store. There was this Caucasian couple walking in front of us and I was sure they did not see us. When they got to the counter before us a voice rang out “I will be right with you” Mind you the CVS worker was straightening up the store when we came and looked like she was there for a while.

BUT the couple looked back at Sarah and the gentleman said “Okay!” until it seemed like he realized we were together and also did not dress like we worked at CVS! The woman also turned around and nodding her head in an affirmative action to Sarah as if she was the one who spoke. Sarah and the CVS worker were of course Black. When the couple both realized they made a weird, unnerving mistake they did their best to engage the cashier and not look back at us. Besides some weird uneasy glances.

The funny thing was, I noticed it, not Sarah because she was in her words: “in my own world” until I told her what had happened and that’ when she stated “I wondered why they were being so wired and nice to the cashier!” When you are a minority this stuff happens and when you are a minority however do not look like the perceived minority group this shit awakes the senses.

It is kind of crazy as they say this stuff as unconscious racism still happens in 2019, but is it really? I am not surprised this happened in Oak Park, IL where they residents state they are not racist, but unconsciously they react as such. Or their blunt privileged ass actions align themselves as “holier than thou” and believe themselves superior or of some type of entitlement that is the gateway to unconscious or even blatant racism. What did not surprise either of us was that this happened in Oak Park, IL

High Property Taxes in Oak Park, IL

Well after reading this article about taxes for housing in West Cook County I am definitely glad Oak Park, IL broke my little heart and made me not want to live here or own a home in the village. With the prices that I am reading in the article you must be high as fuck to want to live in this village. The prestige does not equal that price you pay for living here.

It looks like the property tax rate is nearly three times the national average at 3.12 % which is just ridiculous, with Maywood higher than that. Yes Maywood! HAHAHAHA!!! Yes, Maywood. Have you been in Maywood, IL recently? Have you driven through Maywood, IL recently?

But my point is that Oak Park, IL is not worth that type of price tag with traffic being a problem on an everyday basis, parking being so shitty and Oak Park, IL being, well, Oak Park, IL. There is no longer an allure to the village that will “drive” one to purchase a home in the village knowing that such bullshit awaits them. This although is good information for those of you who want to be stubborn as shit and buy a home here. If you are good at money you can calculate how much your initial value of your new home will be in the first years of ownership (ie: your mortgage and property taxes combined). Of course, there are other expenses too, but these are the two biggest fuckers that would scare anyone straight away from investing into the Oak Park, IL area at all.

The article I spoke of:

Going to St Patrick’s Day celebrations

Going through Oak Park, IL and the neighboring area for the St Patricks day parade to get to the Blue Line was tough. It seemed like everyone already started drinking or was dumb as shit behind the wheel. And this was early Saturday not Sunday where all the old people in Cadillacs decide to take a Sunday drive or are heading to church for the fifth that day. No, the streets of Oak Park, IL was filled with more than the usual stupid as hell drivers.

But we were able to see the river dyed green have a couple of drinks and see drunk people everywhere. Funny as most of these people are not even Irish but use this as a time to celebrate or get wasted for the day. Although downtown Chicago is a great place to celebrate St Patrick’s Day it is a shame that other suburbs around the city do not embrace it with much fanfare. It could help the local economies especially Oak Park, IL that wants to tax the shit out of everyone for everything expect breathing (not yet)!

Milking holidays from a business and governing stand point is a good way to get the traffic you need in into your small area and boost the local businesses with some quick revenue. But that would be too much like right. Too much like not Oak Park, IL just taxing the shit of out of residents and not really doing anything else to ease the pain of over taxation. But that would be too much like right, oh well, maybe the next holiday.

Working hard as hell but Oak Park Il still is blah

This job has got me working hard as hell, but I am trying to write some articles for the blog to keep it alive LOL. I am also planning on how many to write since I usually do about two posts every Tuesday and Thursday each week coming up to about 104 posts a year. And when dealing with that hip place called Oak Park, IL it is very hard to do so, especially with a job that racks your brain with the number of idiots I deal with. But I think it will do done.

Of course, the little village that is full of itself helps me out by doing some plainly ignorant shit. So, I am grateful for that, trust me! It does not hurt me to write a couple of lines about how Oak Park, IL really needs to work upon the gap of: how it perceives itself, how outsiders define it and how it really is. Oak Park, IL is like that ex that said it never cheated on you, but always had various ex-lovers in their DMs while going out with you and wants to be a “better” person to do “good” in the world. SMH

Never be fooled although there are some good people in Oak Park, IL there are a lot that will show their pompous ass attitude to you at the drop of a dime. The attitude is too privileged to even fathom you will need to actually experience it to get an idea. And this is from a suburb that is on the border of the West side of Chicago, trust me you will love driving through the “border area” just for laughs. But the insular attitude does bubble up for no reason and you will wonder why, seriously.

Happy St Patty’s Day!

Happy St Patrick’s Day!

Fun fact: “The north White House fountain has been dyed green for Saint Patrick’s Day every year since 2009…” (Wikipedia)

I am going to the St Pat’s day parade downtown (in Chicago), with the dyed green river, alcohol fueled idiots and cold ass weather. Sooo it should be fun! LMAO I will take the Blue line down there because driving would just be a shitshow in fact I found an article on Curbed Chicago that even stated not to take an Uber or Lyft because driving will be a nightmare.

I have the place decorated in green and some green river soda to go with my weekend’s corned beef and cabbage meaning I will be very happy motherfucker this weekend. No matter how cold it gets! Happy St Patty’s day!
